What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Spay One Stray
Our Spay One Stray program teaches others that JUST ONE person can have a significant impact in their neighborhood by spaying JUST ONE stray, and then sharing their success with others.
We encourage visitors to make it their personal mission to Spay just One Stray Cat. We ask that you save JUST ONE life, and prevent that cat from breeding. One unaltered cat and her offspring can produce up to 420,000 cats in just seven years (according to the HSUS)! We know that JUST ONE PERSON can make a world of difference for their neighbors and for the cats. You don't have to make it a life-long commitment.
JUST SAVE ONE and provide it food for life.
Asking others to do what we have done, increases efforts to reduce animal overpopulation and the practice of killing homeless animals in shelters, by engaging others and enabling them to feel great about their personal accomplishments.
BKIND! (Broken Kitties IN Distress)
Seeing a sharp increase in the number of injured strays in need of treatment at Animal Control and in the public, and finding no other programs in the Phoenix area aimed specifically at helping ill and injured cats, we launched our initiative, a separate program for medical cases.
ALF Sanctuary
When we rescue a homeless medical cat, it's a gamble. Shelter assessments are subjective, often according to outward appearances. If the cat is saved by ALF, we commit for its entire lifetime, regardless of what is found by our veterinary team, even if the cat is unadoptable. Those with undesirable behaviors such as marking, feral aggression, or hiding, and those with serious chronic medical conditions such as cancer, heart disease, or incontinence, will spend the rest of their lives in ALF foster homes, loved like a member of the family.
Besides food, litter, and enrichment, most have medicines and frequent vet visits, specialty equipment for disabilities, more hygiene and cleaning products, medical boarding as needed. We don't follow a treatment protocol for our rescued cats different from our own.
A cat once sentenced to death is now allowed to live out its life in its entirety, with attention to its specific needs, no matter how big or small, how short or long its time with us.
