Mission

One Day's Wages (ODW) is a grassroots movement of people, stories, and actions to alleviate extreme global poverty. We believe that positive change happens when we invest in, amplify, and come alongside grassroots organizations that align with our shared values of impact, dignity, mutuality, transparency, and localization. We achieve this through carefully vetted matching grants that build our partners’ capacity to implement projects across 12 issues. In our grant making, we prioritize projects in countries ranked low or medium according to the United Nations Human Development Index. We acknowledge that our contributions toward the daunting task of poverty alleviation are small, but we believe each of us has an important part to play.

The ODW Human Trafficking Fund is part of a larger movement focused on ending modern day slavery through prevention, rescue, and holistic aftercare. There are about 20.9 million people enslaved today, and nearly 27% are children. Human trafficking is best addressed through cooperation of governments, communities, schools, faith groups, and families. ODW partners with organizations working to end human trafficking by empowering people through education, vocational training, counseling, safe housing, and working with communities to raise awareness in effort to prevent trafficking in the first place.

Population(s) Served
Unemployed people

Approximately 702 million people live in extreme poverty and suffer from hunger. These people are disproportionately susceptible to preventable illnesses, infant mortality, stunted physical development, and are hindered from economic growth. ODW partners with organizations providing sustainable nutrition to those most in need. That means providing families and communities with resources to generate and maintain their own local food sources.

ODW has helped treat over 60,000 individuals living with preventable diseases. In Myanmar, we used prevention education and the distribution of 1,000 custom bed nets made by local women to decrease the spread of malaria through our partnership with BusinessKind. We have also assisted in providing lifesaving services to children living with HIV through the establishment of HIV treatment programs.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

As a grassroots movement, we work to raise awareness and funds around the issues of extreme global poverty. Through a thorough vetting process we select partners for projects on the ground that are community-led, backed by solid data, and sustainable in their approach. This is a grassroots effort that is made possible by thousands of individuals that donate their one day's wages, or other small amounts, and by those that pledge their birthdays to raise funds for a specific issue.

In short, we invest in people and communities, and we seek to inspire people to see themselves as everyday philanthropists.

One Day's Wages is committed to the highest standards of accountability and transparency because we understand that your trust in our work and leadership is the backbone of our organization.

We work diligently to ensure that our administrative costs are low and 100% (minus transaction fees) of all public donations towards projects are allocated and invested wisely with organizations that go through our thorough grant process. We're able to donate 100% of all public donations (minus credit card costs) because our administrative costs are covered by the giving and fundraising of our respective boards.

In addition, we're committed to:
Showing our completed projects and matching grants on our website and social media
Making available our annual report
Having an independent annual audit of our financial records

When looking at extreme global poverty it is easy to feel discouraged and ask: What can one person do? Could my day's wages have an impact? Can I really make a difference? Here at ODW, we believe the answers are an emphatic “Yes."

Yes, one person can make a difference. As one individual joins another and this process continues, soon there is a community fighting to change the world. It is during this process we learn and are changed too. We not only have much to give but also much to receive and learn.

Yes, a person's one day's wages can make a difference. An average working person's daily wage is approximately 0.4% of their annual salary. Consider the impact we can make for another person, family, community, or organization on the ground uplifting people out of poverty!

We hope to inspire people around the world to donate their one day's wages, start a fundraising campaign for an issue they're passionate about, or join the movement to end global poverty by supporting our work.

In short, we invest in people and communities, and we seek to inspire people to see themselves as everyday philanthropists.
