What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Dr. Verghese travels every year to remote locations in Northeast India, the border of China and India, Myanmar, the slums of Kolkata, Mumbai and other regions where people suffer from starvation, malnutrition, homelessness and numerous diseases. These maladies include mosquito-borne illnesses such as Zika, Dengue, Malaria, West Nile Virus, Chikungunya, Filariasis and a long list of others. Our organization conducts humanitarian and medical service camps to provide for the physical and medical needs of the people. They all receive bibles and Christian literature for all ages. Due to the COVID pandemic, finding volunteers and reaching the remote locations the last two years has been challenging. We are again renewing our efforts and working to increase the funding and continue the work.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

What Global Wellness Ministries aim to accomplish are:
1) Building of schools and medical clinics (bamboo buildings)
2) Feeding of the refugees
3) Clothing the refugees
4) Building wells
5) Medical care
6) Evangelism

1) Train volunteers and equip them to multiply our caring, sharing, loving and outreach.
2) Hire drivers that know the area since it is very mountainous and treacherous to travel. The annual rain level is 296 inches a year and many traveling roads get washed out. Easy to get stranded.
3) Go to the wholesale markets that sale the needed supplies: bamboo, string, tarps, wire, food, clothing, medical supplies.
4) Rent the vehicles needed to truck in the supplies.
5) Supply school materials and bibles.
6) Improve personal hygiene and provide facilities for sequestering human waste.

We have various contacts of volunteers, churches and businesses where we can buy the needed supplies in the open markets in the area - the food, clothing, medical supplies and truck them in. We have a team hired to assist.

1) Mortality among children and adults have been radically reduced.
2) They are learning to read and write.
3) Their general well-being, personal and environmental hygiene has improved.
4) Growing in faith, hope and love in God.
5) Social relations with neighbors, friends and family have increased.
6) Elementary, middle, high school students are able to continue upward in education and part-time employments.

Data
  • We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
Policies and processes
  • We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
