What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Academic Development
Subject-specific tutoring is provided to all of our student-athletes throughout the school year. Students meet with tutors after school multiple times per week for support in topics ranging anywhere from chemistry, to time management, to studying for finals. As rising juniors and seniors, student-athletes participate in an 8-week summer workshop in order to prepare for the ACT and SAT.
Athletic Development
Student-athletes receive athletic training (up to six days a week) at a state-of-the-art training facility. In addition to speed, strength, and agility training, student-athletes have opportunities to meet college coaches, attend summer camps, and take advantage of numerous resources offered through the training facility. Diet and nutritional counseling complement athletic training.
Professional Development & Social Responsibility
Exploration of interests outside of sports is encouraged. When sport ends, we want to ensure that student-athletes have a game plan to be the best they can be for their families, in the workforce, and in their communities. Workshops such as speech/presentation assignments, financial readiness, and career days at fortune 500 companies are planned. In addition, it is important for student-athletes to understand that the gifts bestowed upon them should be shared with those around them who are in need, so scheduled community service activities are planned.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Beyond Sports Foundation student-athletes are high performing athletes, many of which have been awarded numerous accolades in their respective sports. We model the critical success factors necessary in and out of the classroom after those necessary on the field and court. We encourage student-athletes to recognize their academic potential, to use the same skills they exhaust in their respective sports in school. We strive to guide our students-athletes as they build strong academic identities that will lead them to success in college and beyond.
The four program pillars at Beyond Sports Foundation are as follows:
Athletic Development: State-of-the-art athletic training to enhance speed and strength, diet and nutritional counseling complement this training, recruitment preparation and support.
Academic Development: An advanced and proven educational model leveraging academic tutoring including individualized tutoring available five days per-week and monitoring of academic progress. A comprehensive ACT tutoring program is also provided.
Social Responsibility: Scheduled community service activities (such as volunteering at the Avon Breast Cancer Walk and the Warrior Dash). It is important for student-athletes to know that the gifts bestowed upon them should be shared with those around them who are in need.
Mentorship and Professional Development: Exploration of interests outside of sports is encouraged. When sport ends, we want to ensure that student-athletes have a game plan to be the best they can be for their families, in the workforce, and in their communities. Workshops such as speech/presentation assignments, financial readiness, and career days at fortune 500 companies are planned. Student-athletes are also paired with board members, junior board members, athletic trainers, and tutors for mentoring.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The Beyond Sports Foundation has made a significant effort to quantify both our impact and our results. Nine key focus areas from our four program pillars have become guideposts for all programming we embark upon.
1. Cultivate parent engagement
2. Improve academic success
3. Build academic identity “student-first mindset"
4. Enhance athletic training and development
5. Expand college scholarship opportunities
6. Achieve enrollment if four year colleges
7. Track 1st year collegiate growth
8. Elevate college graduation rates
9. Build critical life skills to position students for success in school and life
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Beyond Sports Foundation monitors the quality of our programs, the participation and progress of our students, and their academic and social outcomes. To track our student's participation and growth, we use a customized database to collect and analyze individual attendance and outcomes. Our program staff are primarily responsible for data collection and analysis. The program manager reviews the data and shares it with the Executive Director on a quarterly basis.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Since 2009, more than 150 student-athletes have been served, with a retention rate of 86% completing the high school program. Of those who complete our high school program:
-100% of high school senior student-athletes graduated from high school.
-98% of student-athletes are offered and accept a college scholarship.
-100% of student-athletes (high school seniors) enrolled in college.
-94% of college student-athletes are on track to graduate with a four-year degree. (critical milestone for college persistence)
Success rate: 86% of the student-athletes going through our program graduate college with a 4 year degree. The national average shows that less than 10% of all students from low-income communities graduate from college (Increasing College Opportunity for Low-Income Students; Executive Office of the President).
