What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

More than 28 million Indonesians still live below the poverty line, while 40% of the population remain vulnerable to falling into poverty. Around 62% of the total unemployment in Indonesia are youth, aged 15 to 24-year-old, and inequality remains a problem. Jakarta’s unemployment rate in 2018 is 5.34%, which is mainly caused by a lack of job-related skills, including work-readiness aspects. The population working in the informal sector increased by 0.43%. The labor absorption is dominated by the population with high school education equaling 42.60%. The percentage of women working under normal working hours (1-34 hours per week) was greater than the percentage of male workers. An integrated approach is needed to tackle this problem.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Giving Hope

YCAB bases its operations on a mutually reinforcing and financially sustainable social change model with one clear mission which is to improve welfare through education and innovative financing. YCAB aims to vitalize underprivileged youths to become self-reliant through economic empowerment and education, bringing them from subsistence to sustainable livelihood. YCAB believes in the power of education to improve welfare.

YCAB is now exploring ways to implement the last link in its change model, that is, to create a sustainable system whereby students who graduate and become entrepreneurs or employed can pay it forward. They do this by giving back or investing in a mutual fund to help grow and scale YCAB’s mission-driven microfinance so that YCAB can empower even more youths to take control of their own destiny.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

The single goal in sight is to help the underprivileged youth to be "mandiri" or independent with the vision to love and enable youth through hope and opportunity. To date, YCAB has impacted more than 3.3 million and strives to reach 5 million youth by 2020 in 5 Asian countries including Indonesia, and to have expanded our education linked microfinance operation; in aid to make us truly sustainable, so that we may keep on helping the underprivileged youth. We are also looking to involve and empower other like minded organizations to be part of this growth for better sustainability by duplication of our programs.

Our main strategy is to achieve our vision in a sustainable way through a holistic youth development program, which has manifested into the pillars of the YCAB programs for youth to achieve independence. What this means is that we have to be inclusive and incorporate business strategies to achieve our goal through social investment. Social investment is YCAB's product that is the key driver of sustainability for its three programs; providing Health Education, Continuing Education for school dropouts, and Economic Empowerment. Social Investment is the income generating approach that combines economic assistance and education for the underprivileged. The idea is to create a perpetual income from a micro-loan operation for students’ mothers and women within their neighborhood. Mothers and their peers come together for a group loan. However, this is a conditional micro-loan where the condition is the education of their children (at entry level) and of the other dropouts in their neighborhood (at subsequent loan cycle).

Social Investment becomes the tool to expand alternative fundraising that moves away from the traditional giving. It's also a highly possible route to tap into the investor pool which makes fundraising through the capital market possible by; for example, the issuance of social bonds and/or perpetual social equity. This is how YCAB makes the market work for the underprivileged. Our programs are accessible and affordable. We offer affordable quality education at our learning centers (Rumah Belajar) at 1 US Dollar per month and upon graduation, our students will receive the same Bina Nusantara University (renowned University in Indonesia especially known for their IT program) Certificate that is offered in at approximately USD 80 for 3 months.
Upon the development of our Social Investment, YCAB is looking to enable other like minded organizations and individuals to join with us as we strive to move forward in a responsible and efficient way. We also work closely with our partners to optimize the utilization of our joint resources and promote their brands through CSR activities, and to create a qualified workforce from YCAB’s programs

As YCAB Organization is growing, we realize the importance of engaging a capable and productive workforce, we wholeheartedly foster an innovative culture to ensure the sustainability and optimal contribution from YCAB’s business units, while acquiring new potential long term external partners to reach our end goal of complete sustainability.

We also identify the importance to increase our solid national and international brand awareness. We plan to expand and maintain it through increased creativity and relevance with our long term beneficial partners, and to pro-actively recruit and maintain volunteers and social entrepreneurs; whilst maintaining effective coaching, mentoring and program monitoring for our volunteers and social entrepreneurs.

Two million eight hundred thousand youth have received soft skills training, forty eight thousand youth continuing education, one hundred and sixteen thousand microfinance clients, we have forty nine learning centers that have granted thirty six thousand certificates sixty seven percent of our graduates are working,

YCAB has impacted more than 3.3 million and strives to reach 5 million youth by 2020 in 5 Asian countries.
