Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Operation Sav-A-Life
Although we do hope to grow into a variety of works that support our purpose, currently Operation Sav-A-Life is our only initiative. As stated earlier, medical enzyme cleaners commonly used in the U.S. are cost prohibitive in developing nations. Seeing the need, Real Religion negotiated a favorable agreement with ESI to purchase the medical enzyme, bringing the cost down to three cents per use. Because the product is so incredibly concentrated, a $745.00 donation pays for and ships a barrel of enzymes that will clean the instruments for 28,000 surgeries! Following the chaotic weeks after the earthquake in Haiti, we took a methodical approach on how best to get the medical enzyme to those who needed it most. We are a small organization and did not want to duplicate any efforts, or, for that matter, become an exporter.
After contacting approximately 25 medical mission organizations, we created a relationship with ten that we felt would be able to best use the enzyme. We then asked for usage amounts and received a staggering request for more than 3,300 barrels of enzymes that are needed in more than 100 countries!
Operation Sav-A-Life uses a very simple model. Donations allow us to purchase the barrels of enzyme. We then ship it to the U.S. warehouses of the ten organizations we are working with, where it becomes part of their regular shipments around the world. We are able to focus on what we do best – and they are able to take the enzymes and use them in their hospitals and clinics wherever they may be.
One of the great benefits of the cleaner is not only its concentration level, but its versatility. It can be used not only for surgeries, but also for cleaning surgery areas including floors, walls, operating tables and linens. The enzyme is truly a “green” product. It’s pH neutral, 100% bio-degradable, nonflammable, non-toxic, and non-caustic.
