Building Community One Tune at a Time
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
JAM aims to connect children to their communities through traditional Appalachian music and culture. Our model of place-based education encourages kids to be proud of where they are from. JAM also inspires the growth of social skills and self-confidence, among many other developmental benefits. By increasing ties to Appalachia through JAM, we can engage children to strengthen future generations in their own communities.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
JAM wishes to fulfill its vision and see traditional music education offered to as many children in Appalachia as possible.
JAM aspires to continue to offer its services to its affiliates as well as new communities beginning the affiliation process.
JAM would one day like to be able to offer seed money to new programs and grant funds to existing programs.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
JAM wishes to fulfill its vision and see traditional music education offered to as many children in Appalachia as possible. This can be achieved by continuing to partner with other community organizations throughout the area, and by expanding programming to additional counties in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia, as well as new states such as West Virginia, Georgia and Kentucky. By expanding its fundraising base, JAM would one day like to be able to offer seed money to new programs and grant funds to existing programs.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
JAM has been developing and providing resources to its programs and completing community organizing since 2008. JAM employs one full time director and also receives oversight and assistance from its Board of Directors. If JAM expands beyond this reach, additional staff will be hired.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
JAM continues to fulfill its mission by offering services to affiliates and other communities in the Appalachian region. The goals of the organization will progress with time and healthy methods of expansion.
