Hope for a Better Future in Zambia

2008-2010 Blood:Water Mission Project Summary

Well Drilling and Hand Pump Repair Goals

SHIP seeks to improve the health of people living in Zambia by providing new and restored water points. During this three-year project, new and restored water points will provide a source of safe drinking water for 331,500 people. Outputs for the three-year proposal includes 14 SHIP drillers equipped with increased drilling capacity, 143 new functional boreholes, 240 successfully repaired pumps, 75 trained and equipped pump repair caretakers.

Biosand Filter Program Goals

SHIP aspires to improve health in Zambia by providing an estimated 104,250 people with safe water through the use of a biosand filter. Of those, approximately 44,250 people will be served with 2,950 biosand filters funded directly by BWM.

Hygiene and Sanitation Program Goals

SHIP will improve health in Zambia by providing hygiene and sanitation training and teaching materials to no less than 2 trainers in each of 28 communities or schools. In each community, we will apply our integrated strategy in conducting iWASH programs and activities. More than 4,000 leaders, teachers, and household representatives will be provided training with an estimated result of 80,000 people benefiting from improved hygiene and sanitation behaviors.

Other outputs for the three-year project funded through this proposal:

·         One demonstration latrine constructed in each community (depending on size and location)

·         No less than 2 trained trainers in each school equipped with teaching materials and equipped to impact their schools with what they have learned about hygiene and sanitation

·         One health club formed in each government school where we work

·         2 new latrine doors in use at each school

·         7 SHIP staff trainers with increased training capacity

Spiritual Transformation Goals

SHIP’s goal is that communities in Zambia will experience spiritual and moral transformation through individuals gaining a vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ. We will also continue to disciple the SHIP staff in Zambia, resulting in hearts committed to bringing the kingdom of God to their communities.

Capacity Building Goals

SHIP’s  capacity will build through the provision of essential equipment and salaries for Zambian staff.
