INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP OF EVANGELICAL STUDENTS USA INC
IFES is a movement of students sharing and living out the good news of Jesus Christ. Locally. Nationally. Globally.
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Universities are growing rapidly across the world and will play a significant role in the development of African economies. According to a study based on UNESCO data, the global student population is estimated to more than double from 250 million in 2020 to over 590 million by 2040 (“Massification of higher education revisited,” Calderon, 2018). This growth signifies that universities will only continue to increase in significance in reaching new generations of young adults with the hope of Christ and laying biblical foundations to become leaders of integrity for the rest of their lives. Universities are a strategic place to reach the future leaders of the world's churches, marketplaces, and political arenas. IFES invests in building students into communities of disciples transformed by the gospel, impacting the university, church, and society for the glory of Christ.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
International/Regional Team Support
Student and Staff Training
Bible studies and leadership training are essential to forming strong national movements and building students into communities of disciples, transformed by the Gospel and impacting the university and the church and society for the glory of Christ.
Board Governance Training
Our strongest student movements have governance structures that demonstrate both a high level of governing skill and willingness to provide encouragement and direction for their national student movements. We are targeting 63 of the 157 student movements for governance training, implementation and follow-through support to strengthen their governance for a more impactful and sustainable ministry.
National Movement Support
IFES has National Movements (NM) in 160 countries and works in more than170 countries. Each NM has ministries on college and university campuses, reaching out to students with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, building them into communities of disciples, transformed by the Gospel and impacting the university and the church and society for the glory of Christ.
Although some of these NM's are indigenously supported, many need financial support to accomplish their work. IFES/USA helps communicate this need to interested people in the US.
National Movement Governance Training
A well-trained board is able to provide more fiscal sustainability and stewardship, reduce leadership turnover, increase engagement of campuses with the Gospel and foster vision for regional and global missional impact.
Our Governance Development program has worked with the boards of over 130 national movements to promote a culture of good governance and best practices. Our global team of experts work with IFES regional teams to provide follow-up trainings, mentoring-relationships, and resources for governance.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
IFES is working to see indigenous, vibrant Christian witness and leadership development among students in every country with a university, annually impacting 1,000,000 students.
Our vision is to see Christian ministry to share the gospel on every campus in the world.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
To meet our vision of growth and depth of impact, we will focus on six key areas with student initiative at the heart of the strategic priorities
1. Communicating the good news of Jesus Christ - creatively and clearly to campuses throughout the world, in word, in action and through relationships, within and across cultures.
2. Strengthening leadership and formation - through leaders of integrity, impacting the church, the university, all of society.
3. Promoting student-graduate integration - nurturing life-long disciples, committed to student ministry and to being witnesses in the workplace and society.
4. Building sustainable support - through a growing wave of indigenous generosity and involvement.
5. Addressing current global issues - as students, united with the global body of Christ, responding to contemporary challenges from with a Christian perspective.
6. Engaging the university - constructively and boldly, with carefully-developed biblical worldviews, demonstrating the integration of faith, life and academic disciplines.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
IFES has an experienced and well-respected global team of staff from eleven regions of the world. These indigenous Christian leaders know scriptures, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus Christ very well and understand the particular opportunities and challenges in their own context. These leaders provide accountability, guidance and initiative to National Movements and help Movements to share resources, experience, and training opportunities.
Globally IFES invests about $3.5 million each year in programs, projects, staff and infrastructure to start new work in additional countries, strengthen existing National Movements, provide training events, communications via web and print in multiple languages, and advancement services.
IFES recently opened a "hub" office in Southeast Asia to allow for even better networking with IFES movements in that part of the world, and provide e-learning opportunities for staff and students world-wide.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Since its founding in 1947 by ten Christian student movements, IFES has experienced much grace and favor in both breadth and depth of impact. In the last 20 to 30 years, IFES has experienced extraordinary growth placing it at the forefront of Christian organizations that have a global presence. Today IFES is working in more than 150 countries with approximately 560,000 students actively involved with IFES ministries in reaching their university campus with the gospel.
