What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Remote Tutoring and Mentoring
Using
a web-based, interactive whiteboard and audio connection, RTM allows students
and volunteers the flexibility of connecting from two separate locations, using
existing equipment, for mentoring sessions. In addition, our remote mentors participate in monthly, in-person STEM (Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Math) discussions with the entire classroom to
reinforce math and science concepts from their current curriculum. This
combination of on-line tutoring and mentoring combined with career-focused,
in-class visits supports our goals of finding innovative ways to bring
science/technology to life for students.
Our
volunteers come from a range of science/technology-focused industries that utilize
math and science disciplines as part of their daily work.
Our
volunteers are:
Intelligent,
energized, motivated individuals who never stop learning and share a desire to
teach students how important, fascinating and empowering math and science can
be in our world
Subject
matter experts who bring science to life by sharing industry-based examples of
science/technology in relevant, real-world applications
Able
to educate both students and teachers about the latest technological and
scientific developments in their fields
Volunteer Activities:
Inspire the students to excel by developing
their interest and confidence in the subject
Have in-depth discussions of current
classroom topics (techniques and applications)
Provide guidance with homework
Discuss real world applications
