What we aim to solve
One Community Now desires to unite our community together to help address needs that are not being met. Poverty is a growing problem in our community and it leads to hunger, loss of opportunities, depression, hopelessness and crime. We are helping those that can't help themselves by focusing on eradicating childhood hunger, ending veterans homelessness, empowering employment resources and elevating families out of poverty. We believe as a community, we have the resources to help those who are struggling and together we can give them not just a hand up but truly empower them to be all that God designed them to be.

OCN Resource Center
We work with low-income and homeless individuals and families to help build stability and self-sufficiency. We assist clients that are looking for employment by providing a computer lab where we assist them with creating a resume and applying for jobs online. We provide employment training and interview coaching. We help match employees with employers in our community. Most clients have barriers to over come including disabilities, criminal background, lack of financial resources, limited technology skills, and many times missing ID. We work one on one to help build confidence while helping to prepare the individual for a job that will match their abilities and interests. We provide financial training, assit with rent and utiliites, help clients to obain their ID, work clothing and personal hygeine. We connect clients with food, housing and transportation resources along with medical and mental health resources.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We will work to end homelessness among families and Veterans. We will prevent homelessness for 75 veterans and their family in 2021 by assisting them with rent or mortgage and utility assistance during a crisis. In 2021, we will help 10 homeless veterans find permanent housing.
We will work to eradicate food insecurity in school age children. In 2021 we will provide food to more than 1500 children every weekend through our Pack A Sack program.
We will empower educational resources to low-income, unemployed individuals. In 2021, We will provide job readiness classes for 50 individuals, we will assist 300 individuals with employment resources that include making resumes, providing one on one coaching on how to successfully interview for jobs, we will provide free clothing to 50 individuals that are going for an interview.
We will elevate families out of poverty by teaching the Getting Ahead in a Just Getting By World course to 60 families in 2021. We will work one on one with families to help them set goal, learn financial management skills to create and manage a budget.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
To end homelessness in Veterans we conduct an annual Stand Down where we bring in all the resources Veterans need to help them find the support they need to help with medical, dental, legal and mental health issues. We connect them to housing and employment opportunities. We provide legal support and other professional services free of charge. We are available to the veterans through out the year to help create stability.
To end hunger in school age children we work through the Pasco Pack A Sack Food 4 Kids program to feed food insecure children over the weekends. Many children are dependent upon school supplied breakfast and lunch programs. We know there are children that are not eating after lunch on Friday until they return to school on Monday. Our program matches the most needy children up with community partners who prepare sacks of food to feed these children over the weekend.
The Getting Ahead class and community hot meals are designed to strengthen communities and fight homelessness. These classes provide one on one coaching to help the individual learn how to manage their finances and learn about community resources that can help them gain self-sufficiency.
To empower employment resources, we provide personalized one on one coaching to help individuals gain the confidence they need to apply for a new job. We also help them learn skills to be a successful employee.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We work through a strong network of volunteers and collaborate with churches, businesses and organizations in our community. We have a dedicated team who organizes, fundraises and oversees the administration of One Community Now while working through volunteers to conduct the majority of our programs.
We have an office space located in downtown New Port Richey where we are able to meet one on one with our clients that need services. We also own a thrift store where we can provide clothing for those applying for employment. Our thrift store also provides employment opportunities and volunteer opportunities.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have held 8 Stand Down events and have helped to connect over 1000 homeless Veterans with resources that led to them getting a home or securing their housing. We have helped more than 50 veterans with their legal fees helping them to regain their drivers licenses, helping them to get and keep employment.
We are now helping 37 schools in our county with the weekend feeding program where we provide food to 1629 children every weekend. Now more than ever, food insecure children are being identified and helped by getting food into their homes. Children that have food are healthier and have the ability to concentrate better in school thus leading to the ability to learn and become educated.
In the Getting Ahead classes we have seen participants grow in their confidence and learn about resources that have helped them to find employment, improve on their language skills, expand their social capital, learn financial strategies to save money and help to become better parents.

- We review compensation data across the organization (and by staff levels) to identify disparities by race.
- We ask team members to identify racial disparities in their programs and / or portfolios.
- We analyze disaggregated data and root causes of race disparities that impact the organization's programs, portfolios, and the populations served.
- We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
- We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
- We disaggregate data by demographics, including race, in every policy and program measured.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
