Dr. Tiller Patient Assistance Fund

The Dr. Tiller Patient Assistance Fund primarily helps cover travel-related expenses for patients who need to travel to obtain their abortion care. This fund honors the legacy of long-time NAF member, Dr. George Tiller.

This fund honors the legacy of NAF member Dr. Henry Morgentaler, who brought the Supreme Court case that legalized abortion in Canada.

The goal of the NAF Hotline Fund is to ensure that patients have the information and resources they need to access safe, high-quality abortion care.

As a supporting organization of the National Abortion Federation (NAF), the NAF Hotline Fund is currently the largest national, toll-free, multi-lingual Hotline in the United States for accurate, unbiased information about abortion care; abortion referrals; and limited financial assistance.

The NAF Hotline Fund receives thousands of calls each week from patients, their partners, families, and friends. We provide accurate information, confidential consultation, options counseling, and referrals to providers of quality abortion care. We also provide case management services for patients with special needs and limited financial assistance to help subsidize care and travel-related expenses.

As part of the NAF Hotline Fund, we operate the following patient assistance funds to ensure that women can obtain the abortion care they need, but otherwise could not afford: the Dr. Tiller Patient Assistance Fund, the Rachel Falls Patient Assistance Fund, and the Dr. Morgentaler Patient Assistance Fund. 100% of donations to our patient assistance funds go directly to help patients access the abortion care that they need.

NAF has been operating the Hotline since 1979, but the NAF Hotline Fund began operations as a separate entity with its own 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in 2010. The NAF Hotline Fund currently has dedicated full-time and part-time staff who operate the Hotline 7 days a week, from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday through Friday, and from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Our staff includes two Directors, Case Managers, Assistant Case Managers, and Hotline Intake Counselors, as well as a dedicated Quality and Operations team and training staff. Our staff also includes fluent Spanish and French speakers to assist patients.

The NAF Hotline Fund has assisted thousands of patients each year in obtaining the safe, high-quality abortion care they needed, and often could not fully afford. We will continue to provide this important direct assistance for patients who need it.
