What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Prashanti School Residential Boarding School

We provide food, housing, clothing, medical care, a values-based quality education and tutoring for impoverished children in Puri, India. These children come from backgrounds of abject poverty and families that are often illiterate. As well as giving these children a good education, we provide a loving environment and a program where they learn human values, life skills and service to the community. We take children as far as they can go academically, and several of our students have gone on to college, nursing and technical training. One of our founding principles is to honor and support the children's own religious and cultural backgrounds. Prashanti School can currently enroll up to 60 children.

Prashanti International School (PIS) was inaugurated on July 22, 2010, with classes for lower and upper kindergarten through fifth grade with a new class level to be added each year. It is registered non-profit in India. The main focus of PIS is to provide the best education possible for our WFF sponsored residential children and for the children from the local villages. The PIS curriculum has a strong academic and cultural emphasis with a foundation based on the human values of truth, right action, peace, love and non-violence. We also stress the importance of service to the community. The classes are taught in English, as a strong foundation in English is required for college and beyond in India. The need is so great in the area for quality education – illiteracy and poverty rates are extremely high in rural Odisha. The excellent instruction at PIS, with all classes taught in English and an emphasis on values, helps give these poor children the skills they need to thrive and become productive and happy members of their society, and to give back to the community. Education and values are the keys to breaking the cycle of poverty! Our main project now is to build new classrooms, as the need is critical for classes 6 through high school. We have completed Phase One of the new Primary/High School complex building project which will allow us to educate children through 8th grade. We are currently raising funds to complete Phase Two of the project, which will allow us to complete their education through high school graduation.
