What we aim to solve
The Problem - 65 percent of newly separated veterans will leave their first post-military job in under 2 years, and upwards of 50 percent will do so in less than 1 year. Reasons for this retention failure experienced by veterans is characterized by: misunderstanding the new non-military corporate culture; absence of known environment and operating expectations, and; poor correlation of military skills, translated capabilities, and personal needs and desires. The Solution - These issues can be eliminated or mitigated via a sufficient and robust professional network. Such networks are responsible for up to 80 percent of all hires in today’s employment environment. Heroes Linked givers every veteran the ability to rapidly build that network, drawn from Heroes Linked's expanding pool of industry diverse and geographically dispersed advisors. These private sector professionals volunteer their time and career knowledge via Heroes Linked's secure online platform.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Heroes Linked
Veterans, transitioning service members, military spouses, and Gold Star family survivors (Heroes) make connections with volunteer civilian sector Advisors via a secure web portal. Once connected, these Advisors provide personalized career and job-securing guidance, advice, and mentorship via the proprietary and secure Heroes Linked Network app including electronic messaging, telephone calls, and video calls for the veteran's professional development and post-military career success. The Heroes Linked Network app also includes a Discussion section for open conversations on the topic-of-the-day as well as a dynamic Jobs section listing a daily average of 2700+ open veteran-friendly jobs, a Resources section listing hundreds of veteran-friendly employers, veteran-serving charities, Yellow Ribbon universities, federal, state, county, and major city offices serving veterans.
Veteran's Home Repair
The Veteran's Home Repair program makes necessary repairs to the homes of service-disabled and aging veterans who are no longer able to keep up with needed repairs to keep their homes habitable and safe for them and their extended families. The program is carried out in partnership with local chapters of Habitat for Humanity.

Goals & Strategy
Learn about the organization's key goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress.
Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The MVAT Foundation-Heroes Linked's goals are to engage the maximum number of veterans, those serving, their spouses, and Gold Star family survivors, and volunteer advisors. At the same time, we strive to deepen our partnerships with leading Veteran Serving Organizations so that their impactful programs reach the maximum number of veterans in need.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
To achieve our goals for the Heroes Linked program, we work to raise sufficient funding to allow for a broader and more effective marketing campaign so that veterans across America are made aware of the program and, at the same time, we seek to bring the same awareness to the thousands of medium and large companies where we partner with the CSR or HR departments so that their employees are made aware that they can become Heroes Linked volunteer advisors.
Recent successes include:
In January 2022, a Jobs section was added to Heroes Linked, offering users access to thousands of veteran-friendly jobs. This section is dynamic and new jobs are added and filled jobs removed automatically. There are on average 2800+ jobs listed every day.
In July 2022, JVS SoCal entered into a partnership with Heroes Linked to bring Heroes Linked's powerful network-building tools to the hundreds of veterans served by JVS SoCal's several veteran-centric employment programs.
In December 2022, the Los Angeles Police Department partnered with Heroes Linked to launch an initiative to reach out to veterans across the country about LAPD's career opportunities within the nation’s third-largest municipal police department.
In March 2023, Walgreens became an official corporate partner of Heroes Linked, seeking to reach veterans across the country about career prospects within the Walgreens Boots Alliance.
To deepen our partnerships with leading Veteran Serving Organizations, we continue to work to expand the range of cooperative and collaborative options we can offer those other organizations working to enhance the lives of our veterans and their families.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
To raise sufficient funds to ensure Heroes Linked's expansion, the MVAT Foundation has embarked on a long-term campaign to secure foundation grants as well as grants from private companies as well as increase the appeal of local fundraising efforts. To do so has meant investing in data acquisition and grant writing expertise. Success at earlier fundraising efforts has allowed us to begin these two initiatives.
In 2021, the Heroes Linked Network moved to a much more powerful web-based platform that not only brings enhanced search, match, and communication tools to its users, it also offers the ability for users and vetted veteran-friendly companies to list open positions. Further, the new Resources section offers listings of Veteran Friendly Employers, Veteran Serving Organizations, Yellow Ribbon Universities, Federal Offices Serving Veterans, State Veterans Affairs Offices, County Veterans Affairs Offices, and City Veterans Affairs Offices.
In January 2022, a Jobs section was added to Heroes Linked, offering users access to thousands of veteran-friendly jobs. This section is dynamic and new jobs are added and filled jobs removed automatically. There are on average 2800+ jobs listed every day.
As of 2023, Heroes Linked has grown in line with the goals set forth the previous year and counts more than 2,000 Veterans and Advisors active on the platform every day.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
The MVAT Foundation's Heroes Linked program has, over the span of 60 months, progressed from a concept and a wireframe development schematic to a fully-featured, cutting-edge web application.
For 2022, Heroes Linked saw the following:
• 79,674 persons connected with the Heroes Linked Network and opted-in to
receive emails and other notifications from Heroes Linked
• 49,272 times Heroes Linked Network sections were viewed and Heroes Linked emails were opened
• 599,547 persons reached via Heroes Linked social media

- We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
- We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
