Mission

Our Mission:

My Blind Spot’s mission is to advance equal access and promote understanding, respect,
and opportunity for the blind, the visually impaired, and the print disabled.
My Blind Spot believes that all individuals are entitled to acceptance, encouragement, and
respect, as well as freedom from discrimination, labeling, and stereotyping, regardless of
their challenges in life. We believe that every person, at every age and level of ability, has
the potential for growth.

Our Vision:
Through its programs, services, and Web site, My Blind Spot seeks to:
• Preserve and expand the rights and supports ensured to the blind and visually impaired under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
• Promote the development and dissemination of adaptive technologies that will allow the blind, visually impaired, and print disabled full access to information, communication, and participation.
• Demystify technologies and equipment used by the blind, visually impaired, and print disabled,
so these will be seen as purposeful tools that empower the individuals who use them, instead of badges of abnormality.
• Promote and publicize services to ensure that the blind and visually impaired can learn the skills they need in order to be independent.
• Dispel misinformation and negative stereotypes and promote positive images of the blind and visually impaired.
• Reduce structural and emotional obstacles that confront the blind and visually impaired.
• Foster a social paradigm shift through increasing public awareness of the challenges faced by the blind and visually impaired, and all people with disabilities.
• Convey a message of empowerment and self-efficacy to the blind and visually impaired, and by extension to all who are disabled.

Our Objectives:
• Prepare and Equip the Blind and the Print Disabled with usable skills, that facilitate the pursuit of employment opportunities and community involvement, ensuring continued independence, value, and inclusion in society.
• Provide useful and relevant resources, tools, and educational training opportunities to empower individuals living with blindness and visual impairments.
• Educate School Aged Students and Adults transitioning into the community about the possibilities and opportunities for gainful employment through the use of adaptive and assistive technologies.
• Educate businesses and organizations about value of employing individuals utilizing adaptive and assistive technologies in our growing diverse workforce and community.
• demystify the misunderstanding and misperceptions about the technologies and equipment used by the blind and the print disabled, to see these resources as useful and purposeful tools used to empower and strengthen the individuals who use them , rather than seeing them as badges of abnormality.
• Pursue opportunities to enhance or improve interface capabilities of assistive technologies with internets, intranets, and software programs.
We believe that every person, at every age and level of ability has the potential for growth and a richer life. We hold that every individual is entitled to the same dignity, respect, and opportunities as inalienably afforded under the Constitution of the United States, regardless of their specific challenge in life.

Accessible QuickBooks for Windows

My Blind Spot has undertaken an ambitious project designed to promote accessible technologies and increase opportunities for employment for people who are blind, visually impaired and print disabled.

At My Blind Spot, we believe access to the right tools creates ability and restores infinite possibilities.

Through our collaboration with Intuit, My Blind Spot created the first usable and accessible version of QuickBooks. We have been actively collaborating to achieve this since the end of 2011. Making QuickBooks accessible and usable for the blind and the visually impaired will be a catalyst for change, promoting corporate social responsibility, opening emerging markets for QuickBooks, all leading to a sustainable action plan that will become a nationwide philanthropic drive.
