What we aim to solve
We expect that there are at least 35,000 New Orleans' residents without a safe or alternative option to evacuate who will need to use City-Assisted Evacuation (CAE) if a mandatory evacuation is called. The CAE program was developed in response to Hurricane Katrina, to provide safe transportation access to residents who were unable to evacuate due to either a lack of transportation or funds to do so. Evacuteer.org staff work tirelessly to ensure that the public is informed and aware of the city's free, public evacuation option. We attend community fairs and festivals to conduct outreach year-round. From March through October, we recruit and train evacuation volunteers (Evacuteers) who are on call and ready to help facilitate CAE in the event of a major hurricane. Evacuteers serve to ensure that: - Families stay together throughout the evacuation process, - People evacuate with their pets, and - Everyone who uses CAE is treated with respect and dignity.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
EvacuKids STEM’d : Experiential Learning Program for Children
The EvacuKids STEM’d (science, technology, engineering, math, and disasters) program is aimed to increase disaster literacy, provide hands-on STEM’d activities, and build resilience to reduce childhood trauma in New Orleans. EvacuKids STEM’d can build the excitement towards learning in our youth thus addressing the multi-generational poverty that exists in New Orleans. EvacuKids STEM’d offers progressive experiential learning programs based on age appropriate curriculum. The participants will learn how science and technology can change how they live, where they live and how they are affected by disasters.
EvacuStrong: Community Outreach Neighboring Programs
EvacuStrong: Community Outreach Neighboring Programs are local teams that strengthen community lead collaboration and social cohesion in order to build a more resilient New Orleans.
New Orleans has emergency response and hazard mitigation plans, but it’s impossible to anticipate everything. The best solution is to build resilience - the ability for communities to come together and solve whatever problems that come their way. That involves preparing for things like climate change and floods, but also building self-reliance and strong community ties.
EVACUBIZ Resilient Small Businesses and Non-Governmental / Faith-Based Organizations

Evacuteer offers classes (on-line/in-person) and live and recorded webinars taught by Evacuteer’s Master Business Continuity Certified Professional and DRII certified Instructor.
Evacuteer’s Plan for City-Assisted Evacuation (CAE)
With the transition of the local CAE back to the City, Evacuteer now has the freedom and flexibility to share our 11 year experience with other communities that want or are developing a plan to evacuate their citizens.
Our CAE Plan offers a free and public evacuation option available in Orleans Parish. Anyone who is unable to leave during a mandatory evacuation may use CAE to get a free ride to a safe shelter. CAE also provides for a ride home once the city is re-opened.
If you want to start a CAE in you community, please reach out to us. We have plans that can be utilized in your area.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We envision a community that is fully prepared, informed, and has access to all of the resources that are necessary to ensure that our residents are safe and out of harm's way when a major storm is expected to hit New Orleans.
We intend to continue to meet and exceed our goal to train at least 500 Evacuteers each calendar year before peak hurricane season begins. As demographics shift and residents move in and out of the city, we hope to recruit a larger proportion of our volunteers from a pool of dedicated, long-term residents who are invested in the well-being and safety of our neighborhoods.
