Mission

The mission of APUFRAM International is to provide a quality education and  morality training to the poor in Honduras and the Dominican Republic through our support of the work of our partner organization APUFRAM (a civil non-profit operating in these countries). We support APUFRAM's motto of "God, Study, Work" and their philosophy of offering the poor a "hand up" instead of a "hand out" while rejecting any concept of entitlement..  We believe that the children and young people who participate in the APUFRAM educational system are given the tools necessary for them to escape the conditions of extreme poverty into which they were born.  It is the foundation of an integral Catholic based education offered to its students by APUFRAM that provides them the opportunity to help themselves and their families, and to become self-supporting and productive citizens of their country.

Funding of APUFRAM Educational Projects

Donations solicited by APUFRAM International are used to fund the operation of the APUFRAM projects in Honduras and the Dominican Republic.  These include four schools (elementary, junior high and high school level) in Honduras and one high school in the D.R., six boarding facilities for students in Honduras and one in the Dominican Republic, three houses for university students in Honduras and one in the D.R., and a home for disadvantaged mothers and their children in Honduras.

Population(s) Served

Supporters are given the opportunity to establish a personal relationship with a needy student in the APUFRAM system through sponsorship. The amounts donated by sponsors help pay for the room and board as well as the educational expenses of their selected student.  The parents or guardians of the students also contribute to these expenses. Students also do their part by participation in their facility's program of work for a few hours each day. Sponsors receive a photo of their child yearly and a letter from them at least twice a year.  In this way they learn about the life of their young person in a different culture and their hopes and dreams for a better future.  Sponsors are encouraged to write to their students and, if possible, to visit them at their boarding facility and school in Honduras.  Approximately 250 young people in the APUFRAM system were eligible to be sponsored in the 2016 school year.

Population(s) Served

APUFRAM International encourages groups and individuals to travel to Honduras to be a part of the life-changing work that APUFRAM does in that country. Groups may be asked  to participate in much needed construction or refurbishment projects at the schools or student "casas" or houses. Their days might also be spent playing games or simply visiting with the APUFRAM beneficiaries while they are not in class. The volunteer experience also includes scheduled times of prayer and reflection at the visitor center where they are housed.  Individual volunteers are also welcome and usually stay for longer periods of time.  All volunteers must go through an application process and be approved before they can travel to the mission.

Population(s) Served

APUFRAM International also supports with specific grants the construction or refurbishment of churches by APUFRAM throughout Honduras. Donor contributions may also be designated to financially support parish priests ministering in remote areas of Honduras. Because there is a shortage of priests in Honduras, APUFRAM has also established a pastoral fund to accept donations that pay the salaries of  pastoral workers ministering in remote areas of the country.
