A Safe Place to Heal Your Heart!

aka Happy Haven Farm & Sanctuary   |   Byers, CO

Mission

To provide a safe place for individuals, both human and animal, to find love, compassion, healing, and confidence. Happy Haven Farm and Sanctuary (HHFS) serves a dual purpose as both an animal centered healing ranch and full time sanctuary for unwanted animals deemed “unadoptable" by other rescues. Originally, HHFS was designed to strictly be a lifetime sanctuary for animals with special needs with few adoptions. However, due to the increase of animals in need we have been offering a “second chance" at adoption for at risk animals. We are also an animal centered healing ranch for children, however anyone with a need is welcome. The sanctuary animals are a vital part of our healing program as oftentimes a shared “brokenness" helps facilitate growth and healing in both parties.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Neshamah Sanctuary

Provides a lifetime home to dogs and cats deemed unadoptable at area shelter and horses that are displaced or "unwanted" due to any number of issues. Most of the horses are rehabilitated and used in our youth program and as ambassadors to show that most animals can flourish in the right environment. We offer a few dogs and cats for adoption. On occasion, a horse that is safe and useable but not suitable for our healing program are offered for adoption to approved homes.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

To expand our animal centered healing program to reach more individuals and families, and to reduce the number of animals euthanized in area shelters by either providing an permanent home at the sanctuary (to include hospice for ill or elderly pets, and to remove the perception by shelters, rescues, and the general public that many animals are "unadoptable." We want to serve as a role model for an alternative program to euthansia.

For the animal centered healing program, we are working on partnerships with other organizations that would allow us to reach a greater population of individuals that would benefit from the programs at HHFS. For the sanctuary, education and outreach through local public events, monthly newsletter and social media.

THe ranch is located on 40 acres in Byers and is PACFA licensed for cats and dogs (horses and livestock to do require PACFA licensing). We have adequate facilities to take in animals in need and have established a good working relationship with other area shelters and rescues. THrough additional networking, we will be able to expand our healing program,as well as setting up our information booth at area events, and currently have a website and FB page to further outreach. We have a small but mighty team of volunteers, supporters, and board members who with a wide range of areas of expertise dedicated to helping us reach our goals.

Name recognition and positive reputation in the public sector, local community and rescue community has increased steadily over the past few years. We are currently networking with other nonprofits that cater to military veterans and their families to work together to provide greater opportunites for clients involved. We currently house approximately 45 cats, 13 dogs, and 34 horses as well as ducks, llamas, goats, and chickens, most of which were relinquised or transferred from area shelters for behavior, medical, mental, or phsyical issues. We are proud to say a number of these animals have found new homes where they are thriving successfully, or while at the ranch are demonstrating essential "good partner" skills that make them compatible companion animals despite previous reports to the contrary.
