What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

At Rainbow of Magnolia Fountains of Life, we are working to address the following: In many developing nations, young girls from disadvantaged communities face harmful cultural practices like genital mutilation and child marriage that rob them of their rights, health, and futures. These practices are grounded in long-standing traditions but cause severe physical, emotional, and psychological trauma. Without intervention, these girls are denied an education and the opportunity to reach their full potential. They are at risk of being trafficked, forced into child labor, or married off at young ages against their will. Their fundamental human rights are violated. Rainbow of Magnolia Fountains of Life and Magnolia Athletic Camp provide refuge, empowerment, and a path forward for girls rescued from these harmful circumstances. By integrating world-class athletic training, education, health services, and community, we offer a full-cycle solution to rescue and life-long empowerment.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Rescue Center

Rainbow of Magnolia began supporting young and widowed mothers in Kenya in 2009. Through the organic growth of the mission, we purchased our first 10 acres and completed the construction of our first building on the site focused on unwanted babies. By 2015, this mission had evolved into a multi-building rescue center focused on rescuing Masai girls and women from child marriages, genital mutilation practices, abuse, and health challenges. The rescue center now includes dorms for both girls and women. Additionally, to promote self-sufficiency, the 10-acre site consists of a farm with gardens and animals (cows, goats, chickens, etc). Finally, with education being a large part of our rescue effort, many of the Rainbow of Magnolia girls are being provided with scholarships for school.

In 2020, Rainbow of Magnolia initiated plans for the next phase of girls' empowerment through sports and education. Promoting athletics and well-being had always been a priority of the Rescue Center, envisioning a path to long-term success. By 2023, the organization acquired two additional acres in Oloitokitok, Kenya (15 miles north of Kilimanjaro), commencing construction of a professional athletic training facility. Simultaneously, many girls began participating in local, national, and regional competitions, showcasing their talents, determination, and passion. Renowned coaches and political support from the region were integrated into the national athletics programs. The long-term goals involve fostering community through sports and providing career opportunities. Despite being recently established, the Magnolia Athletic Camp has already achieved significant milestones, with many more anticipated successes.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Rainbow of Magnolia Fountains of Life organization and its Magnolia Athletic Camp initiative are aiming to accomplish the following:

Rescue and Empower At-Risk Girls
The primary goal is to rescue girls from the harmful cultural practices of genital mutilation, child marriage, and other violations of their basic rights. By providing a safe haven, MAC empowers these girls to break free from trauma and reach their full potential.

Holistic Development Through Athletics
MAC uses athletics as a transformative avenue, particularly elite training in running and track events. The camp provides world-class coaching, facilities, and competition pathways integrated with education, nutrition, health services, and life skills. This holistic approach develops the girls into well-rounded athletes and individuals.

Community Reintegration and Sustainability
While protecting the girls, MAC also aims to successfully reintegrate them into their communities as educated, empowered members of society. The program strives for long-term financial sustainability through revenue-generating activities like agriculture and honey production.

Create Role Models and Inspire Change
By uplifting these girls to become champions in athletics and life, MAC hopes to cultivate role models that inspire wider cultural change. Success stories demonstrate that investing in girls' potential can break entrenched cycles of poverty, discrimination and abuse.

In essence, MAC seeks to transform young lives, communities, and societies through the power of sports and holistic youth development.

Based on the information provided, here are some of the key strategies the Magnolia Athletic Camp (MAC) and Rainbow of Magnolia Fountains of Life are using to accomplish their goals of rescuing, empowering, and providing holistic development for at-risk girls:

Safe Haven Facilities
MAC has established a dedicated campus in Loikitok, Kenya with dormitories, a gymnasium, running track and other facilities to provide a secure environment for the rescued girls to live, train and receive education away from harmful traditions.

Integrated Athletics & Academics
Rather than just an athletic program, MAC synthesizes world-class running/track training with academic tutoring, health services, nutrition and life skills. This comprehensive approach develops the whole person.

Community Engagement
MAC works to foster acceptance and successful reintegration by involving local communities, leaders and partners like Athletics Kenya. This helps change mindsets and provide pathways for graduates.

Financial Sustainability
To reduce reliance on donors, MAC incorporates revenue-generating elements like agriculture and honey production to work towards self-sufficiency over time.

Mentorship & Role Models
As graduates succeed, MAC can provide mentors and role models to inspire current students and their communities to see transformative possibilities in empowering girls.

Cultural Understanding
By demonstrating deep understanding of the root cultural issues, MAC can thoughtfully and sensitively introduce progressive change rather than appearing as an outside force imposing values.

The Rainbow of Magnolia Fountains of Life organization to execute their strategies successfully:

Established Track Record
With over a decade of operation since 2009 across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Nepal, the organization has proven experience running programs that rescue and support disadvantaged children and youth. They understand the cultural contexts.

Facilities and Resources
The new 2-acre Loikitok campus with a gymnasium, future running track, dormitories and more provides MAC with the physical infrastructure to properly house, train and educate rescued girls. Prior land/property acquisitions demonstrate their ability to build out the required facilities.

Local Partnerships and Buy-In
Relationships with local communities, tribal leaders, government bodies like Athletics Kenya, and other NGOs operating in the region allow for collaboration, trust-building, and better integration of programs.

Revenue Generation Capacity
The organization's existing self-sustainable farm, livestock operations, and successful honey business model provide a foundation to further diversify revenue streams for financial sustainability.

Comprehensive Programming
MAC's holistic approach combining elite athletics with education, health services, nutrition, life skills and more allows for well-rounded youth development rather than a singular focus.

Experienced Leadership
With roles like the U.S-based Program Director, MAC seems to have an experienced management team that understands the vision and can effectively operate the multifaceted programs required.

So in summary, their proven history, specialized resources, local relationships, diversified funding, integrated programming model, and seasoned leadership position MAC strongly to fulfill their ambitious goals.

Here are some of the key accomplishments of the Rainbow of Magnolia Fountains of Life organization so far, as well as what's next:

Accomplishments:

- Established safe haven facilities in Kenya, including purchasing a 10-acre property in Kimana in 2012 to initially rescue and house unwanted babies.

- Shifted focus successfully in 2015 to rescuing Maasai tribal girls from harmful cultural practices like genital mutilation and child marriage.

- Sponsored educational opportunities and created a self-sustainable farm operation to generate revenue and skills training.

- Conceived and began construction on the Magnolia Athletic Camp in 2020 as an innovative model to uplift girls through athletics.

- Acquired an additional 2-acre property in Oloikitok, Kenya, in 2023 and completed the camp's gymnasium.

- Dormitory construction nearing completion to house 90-100 rescued girls in the camp's initial phase.

What's Next:

- Grand Opening of the Magnolia Athletic Camp scheduled for August 24, 2024 to officially welcome the first cohort of rescued girl athletes.

- Continued construction of a running track and further facilities/amenities on the Oloikitok campus.

- Full integration of the camp's athletics programming with academic curricula, nutrition, health services and community reintegration initiatives.

- Establish robust coaching, mentorship, and athlete development pathways in coordination with Athletics Kenya.

- Ongoing efforts to build long-term financial sustainability through social enterprises like agriculture and honey production.

- First graduating classes to demonstrate impact and provide empowered role models for cultural change.

So, while a solid foundation has been built, the key next steps involve launching the flagship camp, optimizing the holistic programs, ensuring long-term self-sufficiency, and ultimately delivering on the mission of transforming lives through this innovative approach.
