What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
SoC Elementary Education Program in Uganda 2012 to Current
Seedlings of Change (SoC) is a small public charity run by volunteers who believe co-creating a world that works for everyone is possible, practical, and attainable. We believe quality education is a human right!
Worldwide, more than 265 million children are out of school, 22% of which are primary school age. This lack of access to education is a widespread problem. Because of SoC Elementary Education sponsoring more children are fed, receiving healthcare, going to school, and drinking clean water. Our work provides hope, healing, and empowerment.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Seedlings of Change (SoC) is non-profit based in Missoula, Montana. It is run by volunteers who believe that co-creating a world that works for everyone is possible, practical and attainable. We provide grants and educational scholarships to grassroots activists and community organizations that are too new or too small to be eligible for funding from large foundations. Our mission is to educate, support and empower marginalized women, community groups and small organizations to promote positive changes that benefit our world and each other. SoC began its mini-grant program in 2010 to provide small grants to sustainable projects that empower women and children. We believe in empowering women through creating social-economic opportunities and strengthening them financially to earn livelihood sustainable basis so that they are able to make their own independent choices. www.seedlingsofchange.org
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
These projects focus on rural women in underdeveloped countries like Africa and Liberia, which are identified as one of the priority areas for global action on gender equality. Women across these countries constantly face gender-specific discrimination that reduces their contributions to economic growth, and the well-being of their families, communities, and countries. Most women in these regions live below the poverty line and lack practical and hands-on vocational training skills and are unemployed and depend on their husbands.
The money we raise through our small local and online fundraising efforts provides the grant money used to support projects currently in the US and in Uganda. The mini-grants awarded assist us to successfully provide resources to poor rural women to start or improve on their income generating projects to earn a livelihood on a sustainable basis. www.seedlingsofchange.org
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Seedlings of Change is a small public charity founded in 2009. The seedlings of Change mini-grant program was established in 2010. The typical amount funded is $500.00 currently we have an ongoing project, The Elementary Education Project that provides school fees, uniforms, and supplies to support 5 children. The donations Seedlings of Change receives each year makes a significant contribution to empower marginalized women and their communities by teaching them farming and vocational skills and provide resources to start income generating projects. After receiving grant support these women can establish their own businesses to begin generating income on their own. This will assist most communities to reduce poverty and enable them to attain sustainability. www.seedlingsofchange.org
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
The support we provide demonstrates that their lives matter and their voices and ideas for change are worthy and deserving of support. Because of SoC more children are fed, receiving healthcare, going to school and drinking clean water, and more women are stepping out from the shadows, making money, taking care of their families and teaching life skills to their villages. Our work provides hope, healing, and empowerment. We have seen what a small gesture can do to equip these communities with needed resources not only to uplift individual lives out of poverty, lack and despair but to empower women, children, and families to create thriving communities and sustainable businesses that enable them to live lives of dignity, respect, and fulfillment. www.seedlingsofchange.org
