Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Rescue, Foster and Adoption Programs

OHRR facilitates a growing foster network of
individuals and can house 20-30 adoptable rabbits at any time.  All rabbits are well cared for during their
stay in our foster network.  Also, all
rabbits are spayed/neutered and go through a wellness check before being
adopted.  Individuals interested in
adopting a rabbit go through an extensive application process to ensure the
highest quality of care for the rabbits that are adopted through our
organization.

Population(s) Served

Midwest BunFest is an educational exposition
that caters to current and potential rabbit parents that takes place in the
fall.  BunFest features 10-15 educational
sessions taught by veterinarians and certified rabbit educators, a Bunny Spa,
Glamour Shots, the Hop Shop and a silent auction.  In addition, OHRR invites rescue
organizations from throughout the Midwest to provide an opportunity for
individuals interested in adopting a rabbit to get in touch with various
shelters and rescue groups.

The National House Rabbit Society demonstrates spaying/neutering
your rabbit is best for the rabbits health and behavior.  However, we also realize that
spaying/neutering a rabbit can be unusually expensive.  We developed the Low-Cost Spay/Neuter program
to help rabbit owners in the community.
This program not only helps to combat rabbit overpopulation, but also helps
rabbits stay with their current families.

Population(s) Served

OHRR
hosts and participates in community events centered on animal welfare and
adoption to raise awareness about rabbits as indoor companion animals. OHRR has
developed several events for the organization, including wine and beer
tastings, the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party Art Event and Silent Auction, and the
annual Midwest BunFest and the Run Your Buns Off 5K. We also partner with local
animal supplies stores, such as PETCO and PetPeople, to host monthly adoption
events. This wide variety of events allows OHRR to increase its visibility in
the community while increasing adoptions and revenue. For more information on
our events and sponsorship opportunities visit our website.

Population(s) Served

OHRR
hopes to help rabbit owners in the community in any way that we can, which is
why we offer information and referral services via phone, e-mail, and
online.  We get inquiries about rabbit
care, health, nutrition, behavior and re-homing strategies.  We also are compiling a network of
rabbit-friendly veterinarians throughout Ohio.
