Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Wow Students
We partner with over 40 nonprofits to create generosity experiences for all classrooms in the Wood River Valley. These projects must impact the quality of life in Blaine County and have a demonstrable outcome during the school year. Last year the nonprofits presented over 50 projects to the students. As a result, students participated in over 8,000 hours of community service and were able to contribute $52,000 to support the nonprofit’s throughout the valley.
Wow-students’ projects were included in the classrooms of the Blaine County School District, Syringa Mountain School, Community School, Pioneer Montessori, and Sage School.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Wow‐Students believes that if we give all students in our valley the opportunity to engage in the community and to make a visible impact on the quality of life in Blaine County, that we will create a generation who understands importance of engagement and the power of generosity; a generation who looks for what is necessary to make their community a better place. We believe that if we can engage every student in our valley in service experiences, starting when they are young, not only will they see the power of their actions and of generosity, but they will also gain a deeper understanding of our community's social topography, and we will become more united as a community. If students from all schools, public and private, are contributing to the livelihood of our community, it will become an even more vibrant, thriving, and inclusive place, and these students will go on to be adults who are generous and involved in their community, wherever that may be.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Wow‐Students collaborates with teachers and nonprofits to create projects that are student‐centered and connect to classrooms' curricula, additionally Wow‐Students ensures that all projects have a visible impact on Blaine County and are contributing to the needs of local issues and nonprofits. Wow‐Students works with each teacher in the valley to select a project or create a selection process for his or her students. A representative from Wow is on site during students' service experiences, and follows up with a check presentation for each participating class. In the upper grades, Wow‐Students is beginning to engage students based on their personal passions and individual school assignments. Wow‐Students staff visit with student senates, individual students expressing interests, and whole grade levels embarking on personal assignments. Our organizations provides real‐life connections to students interests and assignments.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Our organization has a group of donors who generously contribute so that Wow‐Students can provide each student with 25 dollars. Wow's small staff consists of individuals who have worked in local nonprofits, chaired foundation boards, and taught in the local schools. Our combined skills give us a unique understanding of all the organizations and groups with whom we partner.
Furthermore, our board consists of a diverse sampling of the population: public and private school teachers, recent high school graduates, communications experts, mediators and counselors.. The varying perspective and experiences of Wow‐Students' board members allows our organization to consider multiple angles and make sound decisions about programming, finances, and fundraising.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Wow‐Students would like to move to a student‐driven, grant program in which high school students apply to become members of a student council; as members, these students learn about current issues in our community, and collectively identify particular areas of concern. These students would then be responsible for awarding a grant to a local nonprofit addressing one of these areas of concern. Students would create the call for grant proposals, screen all applications, and award said grant. In the process, these students will learn about the financial and governing aspects of nonprofits, analyze current affairs locally and nationally, and become leaders among their peers for community action.
