What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Young women and men are currently a population overlooked and underserved in breast cancer screenings. State funded programs currently do not support this demographic. Once individuals are diagnosed we've also found that there is no fitness guidelines geared towards the active individual.

Barbells for Boobs RTK Program

Since 2010 Barbells for Boobs has provided funding to breast centers and breast healthcare facilities on a national level since 2010. The Barbells for Boobs Grant Program was developed as a way to provide critical funding supporting proactive breast health care services back into the communities where it was raised. This program accepts requests from organizations nationwide that provide screening and diagnostic services to women and men, with an emphasis on those under the age of 40. The BFB Grant Program program currently supports 37 grantee partners with funding in 23 states plus Washington DC and will be expanding into Australia in 2016. To date thru this program, we've helped to provide over 30,194 screening and diagnostic procedures to 16,422 individuals that in turn have detected 199 cases of breast cancer that otherwise may have gone undetected. We ensure that 100% of our grant program funds go towards direct services.Barbells for Boobs is proud to collaborate with other breast cancer organizations because we are not alone in this cause. We have had a continued collaboration with Avon Foundation for Women Breast Cancer Crusade and National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. since 2012. We work to ensure no woman or man would be denied breast health services because of their age or gender.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?

We believe Everyone Has a Right To Know if they're living with breast cancer. Our Right to Know program advocates, navigates, and funds early detection services regardless of one's age, gender, income or insurance status. We also believe that fitness should be a part of the treatment plan through our Resources After Diagnosis (RAD) program. Our program is committed to building a bridge between the medical and fitness communities through human connection.

We have built nationwide fundraising and awareness campaigns to inform communities about our work. Our Right to Know program has multiple collaborative partners to ensure outreach, navigation, and funding is used effectively and efficiently. We pioneered a fitness assessment in the CrossFit and weightlifting communities to support active individuals through their individual treatment plan.

We have a nationwide network of fundraisers, volunteers, and program service partners that creates a unique model to provide assistance nationwide. We put a focus on partnerships and collaborations to put the focus on assisting anyone, anytime, anywhere. We have a small team and lean on resources already built nationwide.

Our organization tracks all transactions of outreach, funding, direct services, and fundraising that allow us to provide data driven outcomes. We pride ourselves on being able to make direct connections between fundraisers and their communities.

Barbells for Boobs has been at the forefront of providing direct service funding through our grantee partners. To date we have provided 22,080 individuals with 44,592 procedures and detected 344 cases of breast cancer. What's next? To continue collaborative work and ensure access to quality breast healthcare for all. We are also expanding our programs to provide support post diagnosis through fitness and wellness.
