BOYS TO MEN MENTORING NETWORK NORTH CENTRAL ARIZONA INC
Guiding Boys into Healthy Manhood
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Our Mission is to promote fundamental positive change in the lives of these boys, their families, the mentors and the community by harnessing the power of group mentoring and the rite of passage. We empower boys to make good choices so they can become the good men they want to be.
Boys are falling behind in school. In 2013, in the Arizona school districts where we mentor, boys high school graduation rates were 9.1% lower than girls'. This means that fewer boys get jobs or enter college. Young men are now only 44 percent of the college population and are disproportionately unemployed. Research indicates that adolescents who have access to caring adults from outside the family are more likely to succeed. Boys need the support of adult mentors, healthy peer interactions, and a place to develop confidence and leadership.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Rites of Passage Adventure Weekend
A 48 hour camp-based turning point opportunity for boys ready to take steps toward healthy manhood. Through a series of carefully crafted, well supervised experiences, young men begin to answer some of their own burning questions about identity, purpose, attitude and promise.
Site-based Mentoring
We facilitate weekly support circles in schools, teen centers, and in Juvenile Justice facilities. These circles give young men and opportunity to be honest, positive and success oriented.
Long-term Mentoring Activities
Semi-weekly group meetings characterized by a 1:2 mentor to boy ratio, powerful group bonding, adventure, art, and service. Processing and discussion focus on emotional literacy, solidarity, anti-bullying, and nonviolent conflict resolution.
Wilderness Expeditions
Twice a year we take a small group of young men out into nature for a five-day adventure. These young men have shown the drive to participate and are ready to build leadership and life skills. These remote expeditions strip away the comforts of the regular world so that a young man gets clearer vision of who he really is and what his capabilities truly are. We call these expeditions WILD Weeks.
Community Leadership
Boys to Men is proud to offer unique, interactive and co-ed workshops for adults. In these half-day to two-day seminars, we teach and model skills that will make your life better and easier. We offer regularly scheduled workshops aimed at teachers, mentors, and parents. We also offer custom training modules for your group or work unit.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We aim to create a community that cares about youth and youth that care about community. Specifically, we want to support boys and young men in growing to be the healthy, compassionate, and motivated men we need them to be. Our interventions are based on validated experiential processes through which young men can fully express themselves without judgment or analysis while our trained mentors model integrity, respect and compassion. At Boys to Men our teens learn to trust adults again and they gain insights that will help them successfully transition to adulthood and to the man they want to be.
In our school-based programs, we provide similar transformative mentoring. Each week, trained volunteers meet with a groups of boys to discuss topics that matter to them. These group mentoring programs have a proven ability to raise grades, school engagement and motivation. As a result, we have a waiting list of half a dozen schools.
