Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Element Earth
This performance is currently done bi-annually (we would love to be able to offer it every year) and uses the elements of Fire, Earth, Water and Air to explore the relationship we have with our planet as well as with each other. Emotions Dance does this performance in April in honor of Earth Day and seeks to raise awareness and funds for Green Peace USA, while also educating audiences on the impact they have on their planet.
Untold Stories
This performance is also done bi- annually to help create a dialogue through dance about issues that happen everyday, but may be taboo or controversial. By shedding light on these topics, Emotions Dance hopes to bring them out of the darkness and into the light of conversation. (Topics covered in past performances have been; drug abuse, eating disorders, cancer issues, AIDS, human trafficking, homosexual relationships, child abuse etc.) Using contemporary dance, this performance looks at these complex issues to bring a message of hope and change.
TWIST
Emotions Dance polls audiences for their favorite songs and puts a contemporary TWIST on them. Audiences are able to vote as well as win prizes for guessing the songs in the performance. The company has done this performance two times so far and hopes to continue to bring this audience favorite to the stage many times.
The Shift: Choreographers Showcase
The Shift occurs three times per year throughout Central Florida and provides a “preview” of professional contemporary, modern, jazz, and ballet companies season of works. Audience members will have a chance to meet the directors and choreographers after the showcase and find out more about the abundant and diverse professional companies in the area. Audience members will also have a chance to purchase tickets to upcoming performances and events with discounts and special VIP experiences.
Open Dance Classes
Emotions Dance offers a variety of classes for adults (16+) in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Modern, Contemporary, Acro, Hip Hop, and Musical Theatre. The organization offers classes taught by professional master faculty in the area.
7 Deadly Sins
This collaborative performance combines music, dance, spoken word, and body art. A celebrated performance throughout Central Florida, 7 Deadly Sins explores the more sinful side of the human condition.
The Hope Movement
The Hope Movement is a collaborative project between professional dance companies, Emotions Dance and Florida Dance Theatre in partnership with Orlando Health's Cancer Support Center. Enjoy an evening inspired by those touched by cancer and the hope they inspire. Partial proceeds directly benefit the Cancer Support Center at Orlando Health.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our main goal is to offer the community a chance to experience the art of dance while also being moved emotionally through the movement, technique, and artistry of a professional contemporary organization. EDC also desires to educate audiences about social and environmental issues that face society and to create dialogue about these issues. The company also desires to continue to offer classes, workshops and other interactive experiences to the general public using dance.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
By offering the community a chance to experience a variety of performances and styles, EDC is able to reach our goals. The company fuses ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary and improvisational movement to allow audiences to see the contrasting dance disciplines. The company also does bi-annual productions of Element Earth, an environmentally focused performance, as well as Untold Stories, which examines more of the social and human "experience" issues. The company also opens its doors to the community for dance classes, Q&A sessions, and talk backs to allow audiences to have a deeper understanding of the company and the work we produce.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Although the company is small, our reach seems rather large. We put on at least three full length performances per year and have been a part of many small events, showcases, workshops, classes, and festivals. EDC prides itself on being transparent and very present in the community and supports other local artists and events. The company has done well with fundraising and being able to put on high quality performances with a limited budget. The company now has a permanent home, Emotions Dance Studio, and will work with the studio to teach children of all ages about dance, movement, and art.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have come a long way in the last 15 years and have grown every year. We continue to get more and more grant funding and continued positive feedback from audiences alike. Our dancers and artists are growing, taking class, and expanding technically and artistically and recently from audiences and critics we have heard, "That was the best show I've seen from EDC". As long as we keep hearing that, then we will continue to grow. We have continued to grow our summer intensives, workshops, and educational outreach for children as well as our professional repetiore.

- We review compensation data across the organization (and by staff levels) to identify disparities by race.
- We ask team members to identify racial disparities in their programs and / or portfolios.
- We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
