Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
360grassroots overarching goal is to be a catalyst for economic revitalization of "home town" America. we want to build better communities thru developments that promote community involvement, social interaction, and healthy lifestyles...incorporating principles of a "blue zone" community - where people live longer, less stressful, healthier lives.
Specific goals for our current project, The Farmstead, are:
- distinctive, unique repurposed development thru public/private partnerships, providing numerous quality-of-place assets
- focus on intergenerational education and activities, with significant emphasis on family-friendly opportunities (places to see, things to do)
- provide arts/artisan shops and performance/demonstration venues to entertain, demonstrate and educate on various skills/crafts
- enhance the heritage and character of communities by repurposing historically-significant houses and barns for adaptive reuse
- integrate options for balanced healthy living choices
- assist entrepreneurs and their businesses with opportunities and supporting resources
- entrepreneurs and artisans = jobs, especially ones within the community so citizens have local opportunities to work/stay within their community
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
As described in the section above, 360grassroots has masterplanned The Farmstead to include the elements described there, ones that we believe give substance, balance and simplicity so desired by communities today.....especially Midlothian, Texas where The Farmstead will be located. As non-profit developers of this project, 360grassroots can include these elements, these amenities in this development, since the land and many significant buildings have been and will continue to be donated to us....reducing the costs of development.
Another key strategy for making this happen is 360grassroots commitment to like-minded, like-believing partners.... from our house movers to planners/designers to construction personel. All focused on getting the best product for the best price, not most for the least!
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
360grassroots is governed by a board of directors with diverse and complementary skills and knowledge. our board consists of a professor of non-profit management from smu, an attorney, a financial advisor, a non-profit ministry ceo, an architect/mba, and a planner/visionary.
We have recently hired an executive director, with numerous years of experience with the Cedar Hill, Tx, Chamber of Commerce, to manage and run day-to-day operations and participate in visioning and strategy for the organization.
With our strategic partners, McMillan Movers, Miller Construction Management Services, Carrington-Coleman Attorneys, and Earl Jones Real Estate, we are positioned to successfully move forward with the catalyst and prototype project, The Farmstead in Midlothian.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
360grassroots has 77 acres donated in Colquitt, GA, and has planned a mixed-use intergenerational community. Awaiting funding following The Farmstead in Midlothian project.
360grassroots has also gotten the 31acres donated by Ash Grove cement company for The Farmstead in Midlothian. We have also gotten the historic Anderson Farmstead houses, barns and outbuildings donated by Ash Grove. We have moved the first two historic houses onto The Farmstead site, awaiting further movement to their final renovation places. Our initial phase of the project, Bella Woods Wedding and Event Center, is sold, fully funded and under construction, with expected completion and opening expected in March, 2017. In our next phases, as discussed in the previous question, we've accomplished getting tenants/owners substantially committed with Letters of Intent. These specific retail tenants await funding for supporting infrastructure, with more than a dozen houses and barns identified for donation and awaiting movement to The Farmstead.
Our current need to accomplish building out The Farmstead is initial funding for the public infrastructure, allowing us to proceed on with selling / ground leasing other lots for the additional retail and restaurant tenants, for funding remaining development needs like trails, greenspaces and community programs.
