Leadership Academy

The purpose of IN THE GAP’S Leadership Academy is to challenge young adults to grow in their relationship with the Lord, become grounded in a biblical worldview, and live as salt and light in the world. We offer effective tools and hands-on experience in order to communicate truth in both Christian and secular settings in Oklahoma City, at home, and around the world.

After receiving specialized training, Leaders In Training have the opportunity to teach daily character classes in public elementary schools, as well as to participate in after-school Bible clubs.

It is our desire that each one who participates with IN THE GAP’S Leadership Academy will walk away with the best possible training and a solid understanding of how to effectively teach children and model good character.

In The Gap is looking for dedicated Christian young adults who are aged fifteen through mid twenty’s who have a heart to know God, and desire to minister to children. We are looking for those who have a heart to know God and who are willing to grow into the next generation of world-changers. To do that they must wholeheartedly embrace having a growth mindset which will allow them to excel on all levels: spiritually, personally, and professionally.

Personal responsibility, self-restraint, and honesty used to be cultural norms fifty years ago. But times have radically changed. To turn the tide of current trends we must recognize, encourage, and teach character qualities to children while they are young in order for our society to produce hardworking, honest, and dependable citizens and leaders for the future.

Our Character Education classes consists of partnering with local elementary schools in assisting them in their character initiatives. Promoting character encourages students and staff to develop and model moral excellence through their words, actions, and attitudes. This helps bring order to classrooms, promotes focus and learning, and empowers students to become the leaders of tomorrow.

Teaching consists of visiting classrooms weekly and providing a thirty minute character lesson. An alternative method is conducting a monthly school-wide assembly presentation.

IN THE GAP after-school Bible Clubs are a way to provide a safe, fun, and educational environment where children can learn biblical truths, receive help with homework, and have a structured and positive atmosphere during after school hours.

Although the exact structure may vary slightly from location to location, each club consists of large and small group teaching and activities (Bible lessons, stories, songs, games, homework, etc.).

Children attend Bible Clubs free of charge because clubs are taught and staffed by local volunteers, Leadership Academy students, and In The Gap staff.

IN THE GAP also partners with local churches and ministries that are reaching children in their areas.

Teaching goes far beyond presenting facts and information to an audience. True teaching involves weaving information into engaging lessons that produce life-change in its participants. The purpose of IN THE GAP’S training courses is to equip youth and adults with tools and teaching methods that will assist them in effectively impacting the next generation of children (ages 4-12, urban to inner-city).

We offer training in a variety of areas: character development, children's ministry, child evangelism, leadership development, communication proficiency, time management, large group and small group management techniques, storytelling, and personal development.

We offer free on-line training resources and live work-shop seminars. Learn more at: www.InTheGap.org/Resources

Operation IMPACT is a summer outreach designed to Connect Churches with Their Communities, Disciple Children, and Mobilize Young People. Our goal for 2017 is to equip and mobilize 50 summer missionaries who will work together with 15 churches to minister to children at 35 5-Day Bible Clubs in Northeastern Oklahoma and Oklahoma City!

There are children right now growing up with no hope for the future. They are growing up in this fallen world and don’t know that there is a different path that can be taken other than what they’ve always seen. Jesus’ love makes a difference in every aspect of our lives and eternity. We have the opportunity to share Jesus’ love with them, to share hope for their future. We have a chance to show them the way to the kingdom of God.
