Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our goal is sparing or prolonging the life of our canine friends, by assisting with financial support.

Emma’s Foundation’s ongoing project is to provide financial support for canine cancer treatment to dog owners experiencing financial need. Funding for treatment is provided to dogs based on a thorough application process that requires submission of financial documentation. Documentation of financial hardship must include but is not limited to the current year’s tax returns; applicants have also provided foreclosure notices, unemployment paperwork, recent paystubs, bankruptcy documents, and proof of SSI benefits. Applicants are encouraged to apply for Care Credit, and to assist in fundraising efforts as well. Applicants must also prove ownership and provide consent for contact between their veterinarian and Emma’s Foundation for Canine Cancer. Prognosis for their dog’s survival and quality of life is also obtained from the veterinarian. Funding approval is based on owner’s proven financial need and evidence of positive prognosis for the dog. Applications are reviewed by members of Emma’s Foundation’s Board.

We founded Emma’s Foundation in Emma’s memory with the mission of providing financial assistance to these dogs and their families. Emma’s Foundation for Canine Cancer provides funding through direct partnerships with the applicant’s veterinarians. In its first year, Emma’s Foundation provided assistance to 11 dogs. The Foundation achieved 501 (c) (3) status in February 2011, allowing fundraising efforts to expand and treatment to be funded for a larger number of dogs. Founded in Milton, Vermont, Emma’s Foundation for Canine Cancer has also funded treatment for 25 dogs from New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine; we now accept applications from across the New England region, thanks to the Petco Foundation grant. Over its three year plus history Emma’s Foundation for Canine Cancer has provided funding for treatment for over 140 dogs diagnosed with canine cancer. A volunteer board runs Emma’s Foundation and all labor is provided by volunteers. 90% of the annual budget is applied directly to canine cancer treatment for dogs in need; 10% of the budget is used for printing, publicity, web fees and other associated costs.
