Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Black & Pink National is a prison abolitionist organization dedicated to abolishing the criminal punishment system and liberating LGBTQIA2S+ people and people living with HIV who are affected by that system through advocacy, support, and organizing. We serve LGBTQIA2S+ people, people impacted by HIV, people impacted by prisons, and young trans and queer people who are systems impacted. Our programming engages systems impacted members at each level of development and implementation, ensuring our work is impactful in the ways it needs to be. We are committed to amplifying the voices, experiences, and leadership of trans and queer people impacted by incarceration and HIV, and this can be seen at all levels throughout our organization: Our board, staff, and planning committees are representative of the people we serve.

One of our main priorities is to ensure that systems impacted LGBTQIA2S+ people and their families have access to the specific resources they need to be healthy and safe in our community. In creating real, meaningful access to resources for our members, we aim to support our community in establishing stable, sustainable lives for themselves and their families - which results in transformational, long lasting economic growth and fundamental positive change. While Black & Pink National continues to pursue the transformation of systems which impeded our members’ lives, we support our members in achieving liberation and success at the personal level through providing for their foundational needs and allowing them to explore educational, employment, and leadership development opportunities which improve their quality of life.

Sustainability → Collective Care
We prioritize radical self, community, and environmental care as a way to sustain this work. We allocate the work so people aren’t locked into rigid responsibilities and burn out. We check in on each other and communicate our own needs and shifting capacities upfront when possible. We share love, support, and material resources for survival, safety, and wellness.

Solidarity → Innovative Leadership
We respect and uplift the needs, experiences, analyses, and leadership of Black trans women. We honor and center system-impacted LGBTQIA2S+ people and people living with HIV/AIDS. We creatively strive for what is right over what is easy.

Abolition → Liberation For All
We support the abolition of carceral punishment and surveillance systems for everyone, not just the so-called “most deserving.” We develop and practice ways for preventing, stopping, and addressing harm and abuse. We focus on building with people, not on claiming ideological purity or a “perfect” political strategy. We connect with movement partners to resist oppression in all its forms.

Autonomy → People Matter.
We believe in an individuals’ power to make their own decisions for their own life. We believe that everyone is not the worst thing they have done, nor the worst thing that has happened to them. We don’t assume people’s identities. We affirm people’s right to act, transform, and heal within their own communities.
