Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Headway

Headway is a multifaceted community integration program for veterans who served on or after 9/11 living with a brain injury, spinal cord injury, or other neurological condition. We work with warriors and caregivers to maximize independence, improve skills, and build supportive networks.

Veteran participants have the opportunity to receive community based occupational therapy, engage creatively, build practical and vocational skills, spend time in the community, participate in recreational and wellness activities, and more with fellow veterans weekly. Family support members are invited to monthly respite events to support self-care. By participating in Headway, the entire veteran family unit will have new supports to help them grow closer, happier, and healthier together.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Bastion seeks to support the long term wellness, resilience, and independence of injured and disabled veterans and their families by the cultivation of an intentional living community, bolstered by on-site supportive services, in which social connections and relationships form the foundation of each resident’s recovery. Further, Bastion seeks to redefine the possibilities for rehabilitation for veterans with traumatic brain injuries through the treatment approaches being pioneered in Bastion’s brain injury program, Headway.

Bastion’s motto, “Community as the Intervention,” embodies our primary strategy of relying upon the formation of relationships within our community to improve the wellbeing and resilience of each member. The cohesive community at Bastion provides a supportive setting in which Bastion’s supportive programs can further refined and expanded. That expansion now includes a plan to deliver Bastion’s Headway program to partner organizations that serve veteran populations in other states, thereby significantly increasing Bastion’s capacity and scope of impact.
