What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Conroe Family Medicine Residency Program

The Conroe Family Medicine Residency Program was originally formed in 1979 as the Montgomery County Medical Education Foundation. It was founded by a group of physicians who recognized the need for family physicians in a rapidly growing and medically underserved county. The first three residents graduated in June 1985. As it grew, the program was administered by the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and then the University of Texas Medical Branch. Since 2000, the program has been sponsored by Conroe Medical Education Foundation (CMEF). In 2002, recognizing the need to expand, Lone Star Community Health Center (dba Lone Star Family Health Center or LSFHC) was formed with the dual purpose of providing comprehensive primary care to the county’s underserved population and to also provide a quality medical education for our residents. LSFHC became an FQHC in 2004 and has expanded and improved its capacity and reputation within the community every year since.

Population(s) Served

The mission of LSFHC is to provide healthcare access, reduce health disparities, inspire lifestyle change, develop community awareness, and excel in medical education. To promote this mission we provide a Family Practice Residency program that trains physicians in providing compassionate patient care, and thereby increases the supply of practitioners available to meet the primary healthcare needs of the community. LSFHC became fully operational as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) on February 28, 2004, with a dual role of providing medical services for the uninsured/underserved citizens of Montgomery County and training physicians through the Family Medicine Residency Program. Our vision is to improve lives by eliminating inequalities in health. Both our mission and our vision inform the daily operations of our 70,000 sq. ft. facility which provides comprehensive primary health care services, Women’s Health, including prenatal and OB/GYN services, dental services, and mental health services.
