OUR MISSION IS TO OPERATE A THRIFT STORE AND FOOD PANTRY WITH MOSTLY VOLUNTEER WORKERS. WE HELP THE POOR, HUNGRY & HOMELESS AS IS POSSIBLE.

& ABOUT 50% ARE SINGLE PARENT FAMILIES. EACH FAMILY RECEIVES ABOUT 40
POUNDS OF FOOD WHICH IS AN ESTIMATED 5 TO 7 DAY, VALUED AT ABOUT $35
PER 20 POUND BAG. IN 2020 WE FED 2,753 FAMILIES, INCLUDING 8,699
INDIVIDUALS, WITH A TOTAL OF 5,506 BAGS OF GROCERIES, WHICH IS ABOUT
110,120 POUNDS OF FOOD, WITH AN ESTIMATED MARKET VALUE OF $192,710.

GUIDELINES FOR ASSISTANCE FROM A.C.T.S. PANTRY: TO QUALIFY FOR FOOD
PANTRY ASSISTANCE, THE CLIENT FAMILY MUST MEET FEDERAL POVERTY
GUIDELINES AS PUBLISHED ANNUALLY. THE GUIDELINES CAN BE FOUND BY SEARCHING THE INTERNET (CMCS/CAHPG/DEEO). ACTS PANTRY USES 200% OF
POVERTY AS A QUALIFIER.

THRIFT STORE PROVIDES AFFORDABLE USED HOUSEHOLD GOODS TO NEEDY FAMILIES, WHICH INCLUDES CLOTHING AND BABY SUPPLIES. INVENTORY IS DONATED GOODS. EXCESS CASH FLOW USED TO SUPPORT THE FOOD PANTRY.
THRIFT STORE & FOOD PANTRY IS STAFFED MOSTLY BY VOLUNTEERS. THRIFT STORE PAYS ALL EXPENSES OF HAVING A STORE FRONT FROM THRIFT STORE REVENUES. THERE IS NO COST OF GOODS SOLD FOR THRIFT STORE AS MERCHANDISE IS ALL DONATED AT NO COST TO OPERATIONS.

Board Member - Director of Operations Carol is the treasurer of Williamsburg United Methodist Church where she has also served as coordinator of the food pantry and Christmas baskets for the needy for many years. She has received many blessings from the folks that have been helped by this ministry

LAWRENCE WILLIAMS

CPA – Treasurer Larry is a former Vice President at Feast of Victory Lutheran Church, and is the owner of a certified public accounting firm, L. E. Williams & Company, P.C. He was the treasurer for the Rotary Club of Traverse Bay Twilight for many years, and is a member of American InstituteofCPAs

LARRY AVERY

Secretary Larry is a Financial Advisor with Advanced Financial Group, Inc., in Traverse City, with securities offered through LPL Financial. He is a former owner of Dill's Restaurant, and he is a member of the board of trustees for the Olde Towne Playhouse. Larry attends Kensington Church.

Gary Chenoweth

President and board member, Gary is also very active in Rotary. He loves the organization’s motto, Service Above Self. Gary serves as District 6290’s Governor in 2021-2022. Rotary Club of Elk Rapids is his home club. Gary and wife Mary attend New Hope Community Church.

John Messner

Vice President. In July of 2020, John became pastor of the Unified Parish that includes Williamsburg, Fife Lake, and South Boardman United Methodist Churches. John previously lived in the Grand Traverse region before leaving for 13 years to serve two churches in Southwest Michigan.

Sheryl Boucher

Sherry is a Registered Nurse with 30 years of experience & retired in 2017. She has volunteered at ACTS for many years. She is a MMC & MMC Hospice volunteer in the therapeutic harp program. She is a Music House Museum volunteer as well. She is a member of the Williamsburg United Methodist Church.

Carolyn Synol

Recently she worked as a fundraiser for agencies devoted to protecting children from abuse and neglect. With a specialty in foundation and government proposal writing, she spent about thirty years in this endeavor and now brings these skills to bear on ACTS' needs.

Wayne Potter

Wayne is the Director of Youth and Family Life Ministries at First Presbyterian Church Elk Rapids. He embraces the concept of combining youth, Christian Education, and family life responsibilities in one position. Wayne also drives a school bus.

Angie Kies

Angie Keas is a local chiropractic physician with a heart for community. She is not currently in practice, but continues to work with health and wellness issues in underserved populations. She was formerly president of the Acme Business Association and volunteers in various community projects.
