Welcoming and mentoring newly arrived Afghan refugees

AAMO provides the forum to educate the Muslims to understand Islam as a faith, as a religion, and as a way of life, by striving to create an awareness of the Islamic point of view on issues of contemporary relevance. Recently due to the arrival of Afghan refugees, AAMO hired a full-time executive director and opened an office to become their advocate and also provide mentorship to become self-reliant and productive member of society.

AAMO compiled and published a comprehensive and illustrative orientation booklet (121 pages with color pictures) in 3 languages (English, Dari, and ‎Pashto) to empower the newly arrived refugees with knowledge about the American culture, ‎laws, the basics of American life, and community resources. We have encouraged them to learn English and ‎find employment as soon as they can. Our volunteers have hosted many cultural orientation workshops ‎over the past few weeks that have engaged over 600 new Afghan refugees/parolees.‎
