Southern Shakespeare Festival

Southern Shakespeare Company produces the annual FREE Shakespeare in the Park Festival at Cascades Park each May. The four-day even features a main stage performance with a celebrity guest artist; an abridged performance by SSC's junior acting troupe, The Bardlings; and a one-day Festival Faire featuring Renaissance performers and merchants.

Each summer in partnership with Tallahassee Community College, Camp Shakespeare serves as an introduction or continuation for area students to develop their cooperation, performance, and literacy skills, which they demonstrate in a culminating showcase at the end of their week of learning.

Shakespeare Man is classically trained actor Phil Croton's witty, friendly portrayal of the Bard himself. In appearances in classrooms, at libraries, and in community centers, Shakespeare Man can speak to learners directly about life in Elizabethan times, the works of William Shakespeare, and key features of sonnets and plays.

The Sonnet Man, aka hip hop artist Devon Glover, returns to Leon County annually to present workshops and performances to area schools. By setting Shakespeare's sonnets to hip hop beats, The Sonnet Man demonstrates that the classics have a lot in common with more contemporary and relatable styles. His writing workshops encourage students to create their own masterpieces.
