Mission

Founded in 1986 in Dayton, Ohio, as the region's resident professional theatre company, the Race currently produces at the 219-seat Loft Theatre. As our name suggests, we present universal themes that explore the human condition and startle us all into a renewed awareness of ourselves. Our Core values are to:


1) Affect the conscience of our society


2) See our audience as our partner in the creative experience


3) Provide a platform for our artists to evolve and explore


4) Be an educational resource for our community

Musical Theatre Workshop

The newest initiative is The Musical Theatre Workshop (MTW) that produces staged readings of new musicals, offers summits and other activities to support new musical theatre works.

Population(s) Served

The primary business is the 6-show Loft Series, a eclectic subscription
series containing recent theatrical releases, classics and musical
theatre. As a Small Professional Theatre (SPT), national artists appear
with local professional and collegiate talent.

The Education component offers children's classes (Adventures in Theatre) and adult master classes in the Caryl D
Philips Creativity Center, artist residencies in classrooms, and Theatre in Context, a combination of student activities around a mainstage production with a related tour
through the region's Secondary Schools.  The newest component is the summer Lovewell Institute where teens write, rehearse, produce and perform their own musical in a three week summer session.
