Mission

With the support of Grantmakers for Girls of Color, LAIPA has implemented a womens health programs in North and Southeast Los Angeles. This experience has increased our knowledge and experience on providing health education to community women. During this time, the women have identified the need of a formal support system that will assist them and their families in accessing health resources, guidance in maneuvering in society, and culturally based health education. Girls in this community have identified their needs to be parent-child communication, cultural identity, leadership development, and most importantly, reproductive health education.

Program 1

The Xinachtli Project is a rites of passage youth health program designed to provide low-income girls the guidance for a healthy development into adulthood. The project incorporates a reproductive health focus and organizing process in the development of leadership capacity and personal community responsibility.

We created of a Community Task Force organized and facilitated by community representatives and 10 inter-generational women working as peer leaders. The Task Force mandate is to raise consciousness and address the issues of the community in regards to health and ending violence against women. The Task Force coordinates community forums, mobilization activities, brokering relationships among different agencies, facilitate the creation and dissemination of linguistically and culturally appropriate policies and protocols at the local and regional levels,
