Lighting the Way to Recovery

The Addiction Services Council programming falls into four main categories: I. Professional and Community Education. We offer comprehensive, ongoing programs of professional education and training for teachers and chemical dependency, mental and public health professionals who work with individuals and families who are encountering substance abuse in their lives. II. Prevention. The Council provides programs specifically designed for children, adolescents and adults that focus on promoting social and emotional growth while providing accurate information about alcohol and other drugs. III. Counseling. The Council provides a variety of direct treatment services including assessment, outpatient counseling, and intervention. IV. Advocacy. It would be impossible to fulfill our mission without focusing our attention on the attitudes and norms which operate within our community. Our goal is to advocate for those practices, laws and policies which a.) support healthy attitudes and norms regarding the use of alcohol and other drugs, and b.) help those affected by alcohol and other drug abuse to access the care they need. Alcohol and drug addiction remains a highly stigmatized disease and we continue to work to raise awareness in the community that prevention and recovery are possible and that people in recovery are contributors to all aspects of our community.

Information and referral is also a major component of programming and currently the Council handles more than 20,000 phone calls per year providing crisis counseling, referral to appropriate services, literature fulfillment, and self help schedules for all types of substance abuse.
