Mission

CircEsteem’s mission is to unite youth across all backgrounds and identities by fostering self-esteem and mutual respect through the practice and performance of circus arts. At CircEsteem we are dedicated to empowering Chicago’s Youth to write their narratives. We do this through the medium of performing arts. CircEsteem creates the social conditions for youth from diverse racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds, abilities, immigration statuses, religions, gender identities, and sexual orientations to find commonalities in their resilience and their commitment to reimagining the role youth play in shaping the future of Chicago.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

CircEsteem

CircEsteem has the following core beliefs:

- We believe all youth should have access to a safe, supportive, and accepting space in which to be who they want to be.

- We believe that all youth have the right to people they can trust and to be treated with respect.

- We believe in acknowledging and working to dismantle power dynamics that stem from structural inequity.

- We honor the intersecting identities of the CircEsteem community by acknowledging the unique ways our racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds, abilities, immigration status, religion, gender identities, and sexual orientation positions us as both targeted and privileged in the world.

- We believe youth and their communities have the ability, desire, and fortitude they need to promote change but do not always have the resources and information to do so.

- We believe that all youth have the right to have access to the performing arts.
