What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Our Operation School Bell program provided clothing, school supplies, backpacks and sundries to 643 children during 2021-22 fiscal year. Assistance League of Irvine is a nonprofit 100% volunteer organization dedicated to providing programs and services that will enrich and improve the quality of life in our community.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Operation School Bell

Provides new school clothing, shoes, backpacks, school supplies, grade-appropriate books and hygiene kits to income-qualified children attending schools within the Irvine Unified School District.

Population(s) Served
Children and youth

Income-qualified single parents, returning students, and former foster youth are selected each year by Assistance League of Irvine members to receive scholarships.

We also offer scholarships to students enrolled in technical and certificate programs attending college in the South Orange County Community College District.

Without financial assistance, many of the recipients would not be able to earn their degree, an achievement that will pay lifelong dividends.

Population(s) Served
Adults
Adolescents

This community program provides scholarships for income-qualified High School Seniors within the Irvine Unified School District who will be attending Irvine Valley College in the Fall.

Population(s) Served
Adolescents

We are proud to be among the top 100 business partners supporting the Irvine Public Schools Foundation. Our program partners with the Irvine Public Schools Foundation in their Innovative Grants Program by providing grants to teachers and counselors in the Irvine Unified School District to enhance their school curriculum. These grants assist in funding innovative approaches that improve the educational experiences of students.

Population(s) Served
Children and youth

Our Family Emergency Care program assists victims of domestic abuse who find themselves at the Human Options shelter with nothing more than the clothes they are wearing. Household items and other goods are also provided when families transition out of the shelter into independent living arrangements.

Population(s) Served
Families

Challenged teens and adults are given on-site work experience at Assistance League Irvine’s Thrift and Gift Shop during regular business hours.

Population(s) Served
Adults
Adolescents

Share the Wealth of Giving, an expanded community service, has been established to oversee distribution of donated items to our Thrift and Gift Shop, Operation School Bell®, or other Assistance League of Irvine Programs. Distribution will be made only to other local nonprofit agencies with 501(c)(3) status, or entities pre-approved for such donations (e.g., Working Wardrobes, Clothing the Homeless), and are not to be sold for a profit.

This program increases our return to the community — a major philanthropic goal that helps make Irvine a giving place to live!

Population(s) Served
Adults
Children

The Vision Care program was established in 2014 to underwrite the expense of new glasses for income-qualified students attending Irvine Unified School District schools. We work with Irvine optometrists who perform the eye exams.

Population(s) Served
Children
Adolescents

Assistance League of Irvine partners with the University of California, Irvine by providing summer scholarships to support children, youth, and young adults who wish to participate in summer programs in the arts at the University. These scholarships are provided to students who express a financial need and would not be able to attend the program without assistance.

• Showcased the talents of more than 640 Irvine Unified School District students in grades K-6 during the annual Young MastersTM Art Show, a two-week exhibit of exceptional artwork.
• Awarded approximately $44,000 annually in scholarships to income-qualified and deserving graduating high school students, single parents, former foster youth, and returning students attending Irvine Valley College.
• Through our collaborative efforts with Human Options and Families Forward, provided emergency clothing and essential supplies to hundreds of abused women, men, and their children seeking shelter and help, and other area families in need.
• Continue to increase our membership
• Engaged the community in our mission through education and interaction

New philanthropic programs included:
• Transportation Scholarships: awarded scholarships for bus passes to high school students who need to use public transportation to get to school
