Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The RAP Foundation aims to help other nonprofits by providing funding to tax-exempt organizations providing services in health, mental health and juvenile intervention to residents of eastern Riverside County. In addition to cash grants, any tax-exempt organization providing services in health, mental health and juvenile intervention to residents of eastern Riverside County may request technical assistance from the RAP Foundation.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Unique, cooperative agreements between the RAP Foundation and the County of Riverside and the City of Palm Desert Redevelopment Agency allow us to provide grants to nonprofits providing services in health, mental health, and juvenile intervention to residents of eastern Riverside County.
Additionally, we provide technical services to nonprofits through our program known as the Center For Nonprofit Advancement. We seek to build the knowledge and skills of staff in nonprofits through tools, trainings, and other offerings.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
The RAP Foundation is highly capable of providing funding and useful information about funding, as well as resources that nonprofits can use to increase their organization’s capacity to serve more clients. Through vigilant attention and collaborative efforts, we have been successful in meeting our goals. Our internal resources include a strong and experience staff with notable expertise. We have strong partnerships with many organizations, groups, and influencers that have contributed to our long standing success.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have provided funding, oversight, technical assistance and guidance to nonprofit community-based organizations or collaborative groups, and other tax-exempt agencies which serve the populations of eastern Riverside Country in the areas of health, mental health and juvenile interventions. Additionally, we have over 100 members of our Center For Nonprofit Advancement Program. We seek to increase these numbers and find other ways and opportunities to build the capacity of nonprofits who need our help.

- We review compensation data across the organization (and by staff levels) to identify disparities by race.
- We ask team members to identify racial disparities in their programs and / or portfolios.
- We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
- We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
- We disaggregate data by demographics, including race, in every policy and program measured.
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
- We have a promotion process that anticipates and mitigates implicit and explicit biases about people of color serving in leadership positions.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We measure and then disaggregate job satisfaction and retention data by race, function, level, and/or team.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
