What we aim to solve
Martha’s Village and Kitchen is the largest residential homeless services provider in the Coachella Valley. We distinguish ourselves from other providers in the region by taking a unique approach to individualized service delivery and whole-client care. Martha’s has been serving homeless and impoverished families, adults, and children in the Coachella Valley since 1990. What started as a simple soup kitchen has grown into a one-stop site in Indio providing comprehensive services. Last year alone, we served over 6,200 men, women, and children. Homelessness exacts a heavy toll on individuals and families. Along with their need for basic necessities such as food, clothing, and shelter, homeless individuals and families require a stable environment that encourages employment, health, education, and recovery. For those we serve, Martha’s offers a gateway of hope through which people regain their economic stability through income and permanent housing.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Martha's Village and Kitchen, located in the City of Indio, has served homeless and impoverished families and individuals in the Coachella Valley for over 26 years. The mission of Martha's Village and Kitchen is to help our neighbors in need break the cycle of homelessness and poverty by promoting self-sufficiency through an innovative continuum of care, multi-disciplinary programs, and partnerships that come together in the spirit of our CREED (Compassion, Respect, Empathy, Empowerment, and Dignity) to teach, learn from, and challenge our neighbors and one another.
At Martha's, we envision a community in which all people have the opportunity to live to their full potential – a community in which everyone has access to and the ability to maintain meals, housing, healthcare, and education. As one of the largest homeless services provider in the region, our on-site programs include:
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
• Transitional Housing: Our 120-bed residential facility offers 95 beds for homeless families and 25 beds for homeless single adults. The physical address of Martha's Village and Kitchen is 83-791 Date Avenue, Indio, California 92201-4737.
• Employment Services: Our highly qualified staff provides residents with job preparation, adult education, career development and job placement assistance.
• Food Services Program: We provide three meals a day to residents of our transitional housing facility and daily lunch to community members in need.
• Case Management: Our individualized case plans, counseling, and information and referral services ensure that residents successfully exit Martha's with permanent housing and income.
• Children's Services: Our on-site licensed children's program provides free childcare year-round, and parenting resources such as workshops, seminars and a resource library. Martha's Childcare Program has always maintained an above average rating for the facility and classroom performance when reviewed by both the State and County.
• Recovery Services: We offer group and individual services to address drug, alcohol and gambling addictions.
• Emergency Assistance: We provide homeless and low-income community members with rental assistance, transportation assistance, food baskets, clothing vouchers and infant supplies.
• Integrated Health Care: The onsite state-licensed medical clinic operated by our partner, Clinicas de Salud del Pueblo, provides free and sliding-scale preventive, primary and psychiatric care to Martha's residents and our neighbors in need.

What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
One of Martha's Village and Kitchen's greatest accomplishments has been its ability to seamlessly identify and subsequently reduce barriers for the chronically homeless. Martha's has continuously worked to strengthen itself as a crucial geographic hub in Riverside County's Continuum of Care.
Over the past 27 years, Martha's has been tremendously successful assisting homeless and impoverished clients with obtaining and remaining in permanent housing through the following optional means and activities:
a. Housing First Model / Supportive Services
b. Participating in the Process of Retaining Housing
c. Developing an Individual Housing Plan
d. Skill development
Martha's is dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness. It is a central principle of Martha's mission and our daily work to identify and reduce program barriers for the homeless and chronically homeless in the Coachella Valley and Riverside County as a whole. With the support of our volunteers, partners, and funders, Martha's will continue to work to end homelessness in our community.
