What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

(1) Encourage and manage a sustaining donor base, plus augment it. (2) Transition leadership to the next generation of Sky Soldiers by operating in an organizational structure that allows incremental assimilation of duties geared to their interests and does not substantially impact their needs for careers, career transitions into civilian life, their family units or communities.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

(1) Establish a system to keep all the Sky Soldiers Foundation designated funds viable with endowments and/or cash reserves so the response time to support any requests for assistance in any of those fund categories, once confirmed, can be fulfilled as completely as possible and promptly with minimum of delay.
(2) Continue to develop the framework and operating methods, for an organization that primarily runs with majority being Sky Soldier Volunteers from the 20th Century (Vietnam War Era) with support of their family members, to one streamlined to assimilate more 21st Century (Afghanistan, Iraq and Global War on Terror) Sky Soldiers into its leadership ranks.
(3) Our final goal is to pass the torch to them to continue operating the Sky Soldiers Foundation supporting the Sky Soldier Community and preserving our legacy.
(4) Bring onboard the talent that helps the leadership be most effective in executing (1) , (2) and (3)

(1) Educate our supporters as to the continuing need to support the Sky Soldier community and reinforce the impact the existing as well as past support has made.
(2) Creating stories and videos to share on our website and social media in order to increase the base of donors - highlighting the impact we are already making and the need to sustain and enhance such support.

(1) The Sky Soldiers Foundation has a leadership group with diverse professional backgrounds, are committed to its mission and there is synergy in the contributions they all deliver
(2) Constantly reviewing our leadership structure to bring talent on board that will improve decision making, operational quality, response, accountability, and fundraising success

(1) We have added on our volunteer board an individual experienced and widely recognized in the leadership development field
(2) Will continue to enhance the board constituency by recruiting talent that will augment our capabilities to effectively reach out to our constituency and raise the funds required to accomplish our mission

How we listen

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Seeking feedback from people served makes programs more responsive and effective. Here’s how this organization is listening.

done We demonstrated a willingness to learn more by reviewing resources about feedback practice.
done We shared information about our current feedback practices.
  • Who are the people you serve with your mission?

Through the scholarship program, the applicants and their families. Requests for comments "In my own words" on the impact of the scholarships in their lives and studies. Through the other funds, the applicants for financial support, in follow up with recipients to get updates on status of their situation and to guide them to other resources to supplement what the Sky Soldiers Foundation has granted them.

  • How is your organization collecting feedback from the people you serve?

Electronic surveys (by email, tablet, etc.), Personal follow up via telephone,

  • How is your organization using feedback from the people you serve?

To identify and remedy poor client service experiences, To identify bright spots and enhance positive service experiences, To make fundamental changes to our programs and/or operations, To inform the development of new programs/projects, To identify where we are less inclusive or equitable across demographic groups, To strengthen relationships with the people we serve, To understand people's needs and how we can help them achieve their goals,

  • What significant change resulted from feedback?

    (1) We learned that we need to remind people of our scholarship program numerous times and especially as the deadline approaches. (2) We learned that there is a need to establish local support for the recipients of Sky Soldiers Foundation financial support to access local resources at their time of need so they stabilize their situation.

  • With whom is the organization sharing feedback?

The people we serve, Our board, Our funders, Our community partners, We are a volunteer only organization,

  • How has asking for feedback from the people you serve changed your relationship?

    (1) We learned that support is not a touch and go effort, need to identify local support volunteers to walk those in need to a path of stability financially and emotionally. (2) As far as the scholarships, we adapted a policy where scholarships are only awarded once per individual to allow the Sky Soldiers Foundation to impact the lives and pursuits of as many applicants as possible.

  • Which of the following feedback practices does your organization routinely carry out?

We collect feedback from the people we serve at least annually, We aim to collect feedback from as many people we serve as possible, We take steps to ensure people feel comfortable being honest with us, We look for patterns in feedback based on people’s interactions with us (e.g., site, frequency of service, etc.), We engage the people who provide feedback in looking for ways we can improve in response, We act on the feedback we receive, We tell the people who gave us feedback how we acted on their feedback, We ask the people who gave us feedback how well they think we responded,
