What we aim to solve
The Nord Center provides services that help Lorain County and Huron County residents address the effects of mental illness, emotional distress and crisis and sexual assault, serving adults, adolescents and children.

Adult Behavioral Health
Community Psychiatric Support, Counseling, Emergency Services, Partial Hospitalization, Psychiatry, Supportive Housing
Sexual Assault Services for Adults, Adolescents & Children
Lorain County Rape Crisis provides support and advocacy to survivors of sexual assault. The Children's Advocacy Center serves child victims of abuse and assault. The Nord Center also houses the county's sexual assault nurse examiner unit.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The Nord Center seeks not only to provide services to help people but also to work with our community to solve the root causes of these problems by addressing the stigma around mental illness and sexual assault and by speaking openly about the need for suicide prevention.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The Nord Center has implemented a three-year strategic plan for the period 2018 to 2021 that has as its three main focus areas: access and capacity; community perception, fundraising and marketing; and the agency's service mix.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
The Nord Center is working to continue to measure its impact and improve its approaches to ensure that the services provided help people to get better. The agency has experienced, dedicated staff working to deliver quality care and to participate in an environment of continuous improvement.
The agency has worked over the three years of the current strategic plan to improve access to care through use of telemedicine; provided a completely new and easier to access website; and most recently moved to a new electronic health record that supports more seamless integration of mental health and primary health for our clients.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
With unmet behavioral healthcare needs in Lorain County, The Nord Center plans to continue to build a strong foundation from which it can continue to grow to better meet those needs. Moving forward in implementing a grant from SAMHSA to support becoming a Certified Community Behavioral Health Center has begun.
