SAGE - LGBT Senior 50+ Program
The group serves members who are 50 years of age and older, and is open to the community. The sessions include chair-based, low impact exercises followed by lunch. Additionally we travel to various places within the Greater Cleveland area. These excursions are a way for LGBT seniors to attend events while experiencing a sense of community
Queer Youth (QYou) Initiative
The Queer Youth Initiative at the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland (QYou) is a safe and affirming place for LGBTQ+ youth ages 11-20. QYou encapsulates all aspects of LGBTQ+ development by prioritizing the celebration of identities while providing an educational platform, highlighting opportunities through community partnerships, engaging activities, intersectionality of identity and art, and ultimately methods for youth to find confidence and a voice of their own. At QYou, we work to collaborate and provide youth with a network of support and opportunities to express themselves, make new friends, and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community.
Training
LGBT people face unique stressors that can contribute to poor health outcomes. Additionally, experiences of discrimination discourage many from seeking care, which can contribute to the development of preventable conditions. Even though certain providers are willing to treat LGBT patients, few have formal training in addressing the needs of this vulnerable population. Professionals trained in LGBT sensitivity stand out to LGBT people and are likely to see improved patient/client satisfaction. The Center provides training programs to Direct Service Providers, Educators and General Employers.
