Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Project: LEARN actively recruits both volunteer tutors and adult new readers throughout the county, offering a proven literacy program to help adults who want to reach their goals of self-sufficiency, independence and job retention. The Laubach Method of teaching used at Project: LEARN has a philosophy of "Each One Teach One" using trained and certified volunteer tutors. Each new learner is matched with a tutor based on geographical area and days and time available. Tutors and students meet twice each week for 1.5 hours each session, plus preparation, homework and transportation time. They work on the fundamental skills of literacy: reading, writing, communication and computation. In addition to the one-on-one tutoring, students are encouraged to participate in other ongoing programs. Current programs include small group classes in reading, writing, math, family literacy, and life skills. Computer-assisted learning is available in our computer lab.
