New World Children's Theatre

The New World Children’s Theater began as The New World Puppet Theater at the North Water Street Gallery in Kent, Ohio, in January of 1993. Originally, it was comprised of home-school children. Throughout the years , however, it has grown to include public-schooled children as well. Eventually, the troupe outgrew the puppets and the ensemble became The New World Children’s Theater, which has produced 29 plays since 1994. In addition to the emphasis on original playwriting, the company is dedicated to using recycled materials in the construction of its sets and props. This fosters an understanding of a sustainable planet as well as an understanding of how to work with limited resources. The only requirement is an active imagination.

The New World Children’s Theatre is always looking for donations to support students from low income families as well as our our ongoing activities.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our goals at Standing Rock Cultural Arts are to build community through the arts, to nourish the spirit of creativity in our area, to offer artists an opportunity to bring their work to the public, and to provide arts access for all.

Strategies at SRCA for short term goals are

1. Building on a marketing strategy that provides excitement for our programs. Social Media is utilized, as well as visibility at Downtown public events.

2. Continue to work with the City of Kent through the Kent Parks and Recreation Department, and also develop a base in Summit County in partnership with the City of Akron.

3. Continue to work with The Kent Chamber of Commerce and The Main Street program to invigorate downtown Kent with cultural arts activities.

4. Continue to seek applicable grants that will provide solid revenue for long term stability

5. Promote the Membership program to solicit financial support from the community.

SRCA's strategies for long term growth:

1. Become a sustainable leader in Kent as a business which seeks to build a local economy based on environmentally responsible ideas. (ie. utilize solar electricity, LED light bulbs, and recycled paper products)

2. Expand our core of foundations and corporations who are committed to supporting the organization and its mission.

3. Expand private funding from those who are committed to cultural programming in our area.

4. Develop strong partnerships that will help us attain an all-inclusive cultural art and education center in Portage County.

5. Continue to explore our connection with Kent State University so that we get students more involved with SRCA. Our primary goal is to be able to employ art education graduates who will help us create a regular schedule of art and education workshops.

SRCA is a leading Community Arts Organization in Portage County because of a strong volunteer base, experienced leadership, an active Board, and our fine standing with Downtown Businesses and The City of Kent. We have recruited artists and art educators for 23 years and have been awarded grant funding for dozens of projects. We have working partnerships with many local organizations including Kent State University, The City of Kent, Kent Parks and Recreation, Ravenna Parks and Recreation, and over 30 downtown Kent Businesses amongst others. We have strong ties to downtown Kent , having opened our North Water Street Gallery on October 30, 1992. Since then, we have been determined to build community through the arts.
