GOLF FIGHTS CANCER INC
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Golf Fights Cancer aims to harness the passion and generosity of the golf community to make tangible differences across the cancer community. Focusing on collaboration, funding stewardship, and amplifying sustainable change, we work to create an immediate positive impact on treatment and the experience of cancer for both the patient and family. Through a comprehensive grant program, we are determined to address deepening gaps in funding and resources for some of the most vulnerable populations affected by cancer: children, the economically compromised, marginalized communities, patients with advanced disease, and those without an established support network.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Cancer-Related Fundraising Efforts and Transformational Grant Program
For almost 20 years, Golf Fights Cancer has been harnessing the collective giving power of the golf community to make tangible differences for cancer patients, their families, and healthcare providers. What began with a small group of friends inspired to find a way to make a difference, has grown into a transformative and powerful community, creating life-changing impact for tens of thousands each year.
Since inception, GFC has directed more than $12 Million in grants to 75 leading cancer-related charities, funding lifesaving wrap-around supports. As trusted stewards and collaborators in the cancer ecosystem, we provide critical investments to transformational, innovative, and harder to fund projects and programs across six priorities of giving: Early Detection & Education, Palliative Care, Patient-Facing Capital Improvements, Patient & Family Support, Research and Treatment Access.
Our annual fundraising program includes sports-related crowdfunding events and golf tournaments.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Through the execution of an established fundraising and grant program, Golf Fights Cancer seeks to make significant improvements across the entire experience of cancer for patients, families, caregivers and healthcare providers. In addition, our team is focused on leading collaborative efforts to reduce silos and increase efficiencies and partnerships across the cancer ecosystem in northeast Florida and New England.
Focused on funding transformational, innovative, and harder to fund projects and programs, priority is given to investments that address barriers to care, improving health outcomes and the impact of social determinants of health. A leader in the New England cancer community, GFC devotes significant time to assessing critical needs, vetting prospective grantees, and convening peer non-profits and partners to maximize sustainable impact and efficiencies.
To improve the experience of cancer for patients and their families across their entire journey with the disease, Golf Fights Cancer provides funding across six priorities of giving:
1. Early Detection & Education
2. Palliative Care
3. Patient-Facing Capital Improvements
4. Patient & Family Support
5. Research
6. Treatment Access
In 2024, Golf Fights Cancer will continue to execute a high-level giving program that provides sustaining impact to patients, families, healthcare professionals, and organizations across the entire cancer journey and community. Information from key constituents continues to confirm the increasing need for immediate supports addressing financial and treatment barriers impacting cancer patients and families, especially those from marginalized communities. Rising costs of housing, food, gas, and utilities, combined with the financial implications of later staged diagnoses in the wake of COVID-19, continue to greatly impact the cancer community. In addition, research continues to identify alarming disparities in treatment access and adherence due to social determinants of health, which are contributing to poorer cancer outcomes in Black and Hispanic/Latinx patients.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Soon entering our 20th year, Golf Fights Cancer remains committed to making a difference by amplifying the collective giving power of the golf community and forging collaborations across the cancer ecosystem.
Raising revenue through traditional golf tournaments, an annual golf marathon, the Boston Marathon, and general mission-based donations, GFC has developed a proven strategy, strong infrastructure and committed community of leaders, donors and partners that has led to significant annual growth across all facets of the organization – an astonishing 400% growth over the last ten years in number of engaged donors, annual revenue, and yearly grant distribution totals!
To reach our goals of improving the experience of cancer for patients and families across their entire journey with the disease, in 2023/2024 Golf Fights Cancer will continue to execute our mission at the highest standards, maximizing the impact created for cancer patients, families and health care providers through:
• Providing opportunities for individuals/families affected by cancer to fundraise and raise awareness through golf tournaments and sports-related crowd funding activities
• Growing relationships with key stakeholders across the national cancer ecosystem
• Impact reporting and assessments – including regular visits/communications with grantees and those impacted by cancer (patients, caregivers, healthcare providers and peer non-profits)
• Convening peer and partner non-profits to reduce silos and improve the delivery of resources and programs to cancer patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers
• Operational efficiencies to maximize the allocation of funding to our mission
• Review and strengthening of our efforts to ensure diversity, equity and inclusion within our community, our non-profit partners, and the individuals impacted by our mission
• Ongoing training in non-profit best practices and trends in oncology/healthcare
• Executing a comprehensive annual grant program

- We ask team members to identify racial disparities in their programs and / or portfolios.
- We analyze disaggregated data and root causes of race disparities that impact the organization's programs, portfolios, and the populations served.
- We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
- We disaggregate data by demographics, including race, in every policy and program measured.
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We have a promotion process that anticipates and mitigates implicit and explicit biases about people of color serving in leadership positions.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
