Tri State Food Bank, Inc.

We Supply Food Where It's Needed Most.

aka TSFB   |   Evansville, IN   |  http://www.tristatefoodbank.org

Mission

Our mission is to feed the hungry by soliciting and judiciously distributing marketable surplus food to non-profit agencies, which serve the needy in a 33-county area of the tri-state. We monitor member agencies and assist them in the various programs they sponsor. We serve as the channel through which donors may be assured of good warehousing practices, equitable distribution, and accountability to the member agencies as well as to the needy. We educate the public about the nature of and the solutions to the problems of hunger. We encourage donors to practice the good stewardship of donating, not dumping, usable surplus food.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Tri-State Food Bank delivers life-giving provisions to over 250 feeding programs serving thousands of local women, men, and children. The Food Bank provides food and other grocery products to over 170 food pantries so they can provide adequate groceries to low-income families and individuals. Many families rely on emergency food on a regular basis because their paycheck simply does not cover their basis life expenses. Food is distributed to 80 local soup kitchens and/or shelters serving the homeless, victims of domestic violence, and families and individuals in need. Through collaboration with local charities, our Kids Cafe program provides nutritious evening meals in conjunction with enrichment programs for at-risk kids. Working in partnership with local agencies and school social workers, Tri-State Food Bank provides back packs filled with food for identifies kids in need and distributes the back packs on Fridays during the school year. Many kids rely on the free school lunch during the week, but have no food security over the week-end. In addition, local agencies distribute the back packs throughout the year to hungry kids through their local program. During the summer months, the weekend food helps provide additional nutrition to help kids develop and enjoy summer activities. Lack of food and nutrition for the elderly can be serious because of their susceptibility to health problems, both physical and cognitive. Other on-site feeding programs provide daily meals for Day care centers that provide service to low-income children, Residential treatment homes, and Camps for handicapped or under-privileged children. Tri-State Food Bank works with agencies committed to serving those in need when a disaster occurs, including the American Red Cross. Our primary service as a food bank is to collect usable donated foods and disburse to non-profit feeding organizations in a 33-county service area of the tri-state. Products are received from a variety of sources including America's Second Harvest. After careful inspection, the food goes to our network of non-profit feeding charities.
