The Spay Neuter Project

To aide in the reduction of unplanned and unwanted companion animals, No Kill Columbia will place an emphasis on funding a low-cost spay and neuter clinic in our community, which has been accepted in the Humane Alliance National Spay Neuter Response Team (NSNRT), and is scheduled to open in April 2015. We look forward to providing quality, high volume, low-cost, easily accessible spay and neuter services to Columbia and all of Mid Missouri.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

To support and make a reality the No Kill Equation in our community.

Goals of The Spay Neuter Project:
1. Decrease the number of unwanted litters
2. Reduce area animal shelter intake lowering the number of pets killed each year.
3. Significantly reduce the unwanted animal population.

We will use social media, craigslist, and radio advertising. Our board members have strong ties in the rescue community that will be great allies for promotion. We also will work with Animal Control and the Food Bank to reach pets most in need of our services. Our organization has booths at over a dozen community events throughout the year for promotion.

Our clinic will include a transportation program following the Humane Alliance model. We will have community partners/representatives in areas of high need that will promote, network, and schedule animals for transport.

The chair for the Spay Neuter Project has a degree in animal science, works for IDEXX laboratories (an animal diagnostics laboratory), and volunteered/fostered many years in rescues/shelters. No Kill Columbia board members are all active members, volunteers, and foster parents for local rescues.

Additionally, an Advisory Board was assembled solely for the Spay Neuter Project consisting of a veterinarian with 34 years at the University of Missouri, a real estate agent, the Assistant Director of Small Business Development at the University of Missouri, an OSHA inspector, a lawyer, a Financial Consultant with Landmark Bank, and several prominent business owners including both large locally owned pet stores.

Our Executive Director of The Spay Neuter Project, has extensive experience in business management, both in the for-profit and nonprofit world.

Our organization has already raised the start up cost amount plus additional funding. We have secured a centrally located 3,000 square foot property that is directly off Interstate 70 with high visibility. We have also been awarded an $83,000 PetSmart Charities Equipment grant in January 2015 and are on track to open to the public in April 2015.
