What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Hollywood and other film centers around the globe are not exactly very female friendly - especially for women aspiring to senior film making positions that are traditionally and largely frequented by men. It is not only a challenge to get our projects completed, but to have the ability to secure an audience to consume our content.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Given that women represent more than half the film going audience - and the majority of financial decisions including where entertainment budgets are spent. - it is high time this changes, and women are helping shape the character of film to satisfy both the male and female gaze, in addition to having equal opportunity for those producing competitive quality outcomes. As such, awardees at our festival will be guaranteed a distribution offer onsite.

We provide visibility to these projects by showcasing them at our festival and we have secured dedicated distribution channels to ensure the content is disseminated to the masses. We also offer education while these women create relationships in a supportive and empowering environment.

With over a century of experience in the entertainment industry, we have forged some long-standing relationships. This enables us to activate our resources for the betterment of the film community at large. We have already secured several avenues of distribution and can assist filmmakers in curating the relationships we now enjoy.

FLOW is a registered, tax-exempt, public charity. We have our distributors and our board. We have completed our first year in spite of the pandemic. Now is the fundraising stage where we will be applying for grants and requesting donations. As a result of our Covid-19 experience and our virtual pivot, we are honing in on making our mobile experience as seamless as possible, generating an App and adding a robust live event for 2021.

Data
  • We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
  • We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
Policies and processes
  • We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
  • We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
  • We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
